9 mormon women and children were shot and burned alive in an ambush near the US and Mexican border.

Nine members of a mormon family were killed on the Mexican side of the border and authorities are investigating if it was mistaken indentity.

The victims include three women and four small children and two infants,all nine were dual US Mexican citizens.Investigators believe three vehicles traveling between the states of Sonora and Chihuahua were ambushed by criminal groups monday evening,Mexican authorities said.Women and children were massacred and burned alive,authorities say.

That's a little strange. Sounds like a cartel style hit, but most Mormons are known for abstaining even from legal substances like coffee and cigarettes. What would they be doing to the nature of things like meth, coke, heroin, etc?

Maybe some gang wanted their vehicles, but if that's the reason this seems like extreme overkill.

If I wanted your car, I would shoot you and leave you in the street with no concerns about burning you. The fact they were burned while still alive leads me to think it was more like a retaliatory act against the wrong people.

If you were a rational person with a simple and clear goal (dispose of driver, acquire vehicle, get away), sure. If you're a gang concerned with maintaining a reputation for wanton brutality for the sake of it, that might be another story.

Usually even with a gang with a reputation, the brutality idea is reserved for certain people who have done harm to the gang. Such as stiffing them on product, ratting them out to authorities or rival gang, you were sleeping with a members girlfriend, or other wrong doings. Typically car theft is either in the heat of the moment while being chased or done in a stealth manner if the case is obtaining a vehicle not connected to the gang for planning a drive-by.

This whole things is likely about mistaken identity

I just saw the story on the news and they said it definitely was the case that the family traveling to a wedding was mistaken for a rival gang.

You know something? I don't think I like movies that romantacize the mafia anymore. Sadistic scumbags like this should be locked away and put down like dogs!

The US is offering assistance to Mexico for investigation if this incident.

I hope they catch those scumbags!

I think the cartel burned the vehicles

They now have a suspect in custody.

I am waiting to hear if Trump sends in a few Special Forces troops to hunt down the cartel after this.
