All together now: "IT'S ABOUT TIME!!"

Sonnenkrieg Division, a UK-based neo-Nazi group, will be effectively banned in Australia once its listing as a terror group is confirmed.  The group has been outlawed in the UK since early last year (2020), and members have been convicted of encouraging terrorism, disseminating terror material, and preparations for terrorist acts.  As a result of the listing, it will become an offence to be a member of the group, fund the group, or in some circumstances associate with members of the group.  Penalties can range to up to 25 years in prison.

Good.
We don't need that crap here.
America can learn from us.

Apparently, we have 'Proud Boys" here also.
I only learnt that a month ago.
I am sure we don't need them either. 8)

I hope we get rid of antifa, also, btw. ;)

Well, that's good news...Looks like Australia has joined Canada and the UK in banning this USA based organisation (or at least one of its offshoots) - Interesting that it isn't banned over there in the USA, though, but maybe they'll catch up with us in time.

It's nice to see people overseas taking an interest in our country, too, as they provide a different (potentially more objective) view, compared to what we normally see from the "inside" - It's easy for people to believe their view of their own country is always right, whereas an outsider looking in has a chance of seeing things those inside the country ignore\were unaware of\want hidden - and this sort of "inspection"\"making observations" should be encouraged more often.

Australia currently has no laws prohibiting the exercise of hate speech.

That explains a lot.

Australian white supremacists are dreaming of a fourth Reich, with an Australian Hitler at the helm.  They want an Australia without Jews, without Muslims, without the disabled, without members of the LGBTQ+ community, and they are getting away with it because they know that Australian law does not prohibit them from doing so.

The problem does not lie with Australia's immigration policies.  The problem does not lie with its immigrants.  The problem does not lie with The Crown.  The problem does not lie with American influence.  The problem lies within the broader Australian community that ignores or accepts the presence of right-wing extremists in its very midst, makes excuses for their actions, denies the existence of hate speech, and encourages the increasingly "Other-phobic" and anti-immigrant discourse in Australia.

They go even further and have the gall to hatefully point their fingers at America while their own greatest shame is what goes on in their own country.

And yet 5 seconds on the internet and we get:
Quote:
The hate speech laws in Australia give redress to someone who is the victim of discrimination, vilification, or injury on grounds that differ from one jurisdiction to another. All Australian jurisdictions give redress when a person is victimised on account of colour, ethnicity, national origin, or race. Some jurisdictions give redress when a person is victimised on account of colour, ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender identity, HIV/AIDS status or sexual orientation.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_Australia

I removed the rest of the diatribe, as being meaningless noise, when the initial claim that "no hate speech laws existed" was so simply disproven...

Given twitter is being sued in Canada for comments made by someone in the United States regarding a Canadian that were published\available in Canada (despite the "terms of service" requiring these types of actions to take place in Callifornia where "section 230" would apply), it would be interesting to know if something similar is possible with regards to comments published on a site villifying Australian people (or individual person(s)) as a result of their nationality given "All Australian jurisdictions give redress when a person is victimised on account of colour, ethnicity, national origin, or race" :)

Your notation has been noted. So what?

Sometimes the truth hurts. It's still the truth.

"Truth may be inconvenient but it is never politically incorrect...The Oracle of Truth has spoken...8) "

The Ministry of Factual Statements says so, so it MUST be true!

So nazis DO exist, and it IS ok to ban them? Is that the message here? Just making sure. Some people seem to think "banning" things is "bad!", and that the term "nazi" is ever-so-overused...

Here in america we'd love to ban nazis, but every time we talk about it, someone starts screeching like a fire alarm, "gOdWiNs LaW GoDwInS lAw!! !" or whining and moaning about how casually the terms "nazi" and "facists" are bandied about.

Do you mean the totalitarian government which is trade blocking us, slandered our soldiers, called us 'chewing gum on the souls of their shoes', infiltrating the government, cyber-attacking us, spying on Australians in our own country, and not so subtly suggesting that Australia should be invaded, prompting a recent $275 Billion in defence spending/planning?
Now, why would I be unimpressed with that?

We have been erasing parts of our history (not unlike the Americans). One of the most popular publications in Australia was the Bulletin (I recall everybody's father in my school had a copy in their house and my dad was an avid subscriber) and it's masthead proudly declared the following until 1963/64
"The Bulletin" "The National Australian Newspaper"
Australia for the whiteman

Since the digital age its almost impossible now to find this masthead in a form that can be circulated. The fact the entire nation embraced this publication says volumes for what's just beneath the surface.

Yep, there was a "White Australian Policy".
No hiding from that.
However,
There have been 'millions' of immigrants after that policy was abandoned.

I think some people are ignorant of the fact that immigrants and children born of immigrants make a large proportion of the population, these days.
From memory, there are 1.2 million 'ethnic' Chinese in Australia, now, as an example.
So when people say 'Australians', they can't mean 'Whities'.

BTW, I am a first gen Australian. 8)

I'm not disputing Australia is a multicultural country now and is welcoming to outsiders who migrate here.

I'm just saying that a historic fear of non-white people doesn't just go away overnight. Look what happens to high profile folk like Adam Goodes, Anthony Mundine or Yasmin Abdel Majid who got cancelled by the white populace because they dared think for themselves. Abdel Majid got so much hate mail she fled Australia.

Lots of work to do to build bridges

Excluding Adam Goodes, didn't the others preach hate against the whities?

The more I hear about Australia, the more like America they sound.

A country is always going to have a problem with racism until it takes steps to address racism in that country, past and present. My mind goes to Australia
PM John Curtain speaking during WWII:

Quote:
Never shall an enemy set foot upon the soil of this country without having at once arrayed against it the whole of the manhood of this nation with such strength and quality that this nation will remain for ever the home of sons of Britishers who came here in peace in order to establish in the South Seas an outpost of the British race. Our law have proclaimed the standard of a White Australia.

At least Australia has hate speech laws... Baby steps I guess.
Now if we could just get Americans to get off their rears and stamp out nationalism over here.
