A high-ranking member of the Lexington County Republican Party was arrested Dec. 16 after allegedly slapping a West Columbia councilman at the GOP’s Christmas party.

Angus Godwin, 51, a member of Lexington County GOP’s executive committee, was charged with third-degree assault and battery for striking West Columbia Councilman Mike Green, according to an incident report from the Lexington Police Department.

Godwin’s alleged assault on Green was the culmination of a months-long feud within the party over what other members see as Green’s insufficient support of former President Donald Trump, Green said.

The point is that not all GOPers are loyal to cult leader Trump. And this is causing a rift within the GOP.

Are they loyal to anything though? Aside from money and greed.

I doubt any of them are actually loyal to trump, I suspect those closest to him would throw him under the bus if they'd benefit from it.

The divisions are starting to result into crazy behaviour. The arrest was on Dec 16 so that event was recent.

And people keep voting for these people based on falsehoods.

They think Dems and moderate GOPers will:

Persecute white people, men and/or Christians.

Legalize bestiality and/or pedophilia.

Allow China, Venezuela and various Muslim-majority nations to take over.

and last but not least: take their guns, make them wear masks and make them get vaccinated

Republicans for years have been ready to get measured for a straight jacket.

We’re still paying the price for Nixon.

(To be fair, though, moderates like Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Larry Hogan, et al, still have my respect)

Nixon actually seemed competent/coherent compared to the MAGA messiah.

Most certainly Nixon was a highly intelligent, very learned man who absolutely understood the political game. But his fatal flaw was his paranoia and persecution complex, and how he surrounded himself with the same kind of people, giving rise to a siege mentality in the White house.

More likely Haldeman and Ehrlichman, and the other guys.

Whatever happened to the good old days, when that slap would have been followed by a pistol duel?
