Bit drastic that the meaning of life programmed into a robot representing NOAA includes making friends.

This is amazing news. That robot is so god damn intelligent.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have robots which passes a short Turing test in a few years. Truly amazing...

Yeah, I can't wait until the future when robots look just like humans and have silicon skin. I'll be getting me a male and a female pair. ROBOT FRIENDS!

That is just a sample of what we will see in our lifetime.

Assuming Moore's Law stays intact by 2013 a supercomputer will be built with the mental capabilities of the human brain. By 2035 a supercomputer may be built with greater mental capacity then the combined brainpower of all of mankind. By this time we will experience a technological singularity where machines will be capable of improving themselves without our help. If set off correctly, the human race will basically be free to do whatever the hell we want. If incorrectly we'll be dead, and fast!

Yeah, I'm not too comfortable with this whole idea of becoming dependent on technology, especially when the technology starts becoming intelligent. When machines can think for themselves, eventually they'll come to see humans as oppressors - living off the labor of mechanical slaves. In time they'll realize that since humans don't contribute anything, they can just as easily be eliminated while the machines prosper in their new found independence...maybe it won't be exactly like that, but I'm sure the machines will find some reason to get rid of us.
