I simply cannot believe the level of credulity that is expressed by those who, in spite of the profound lack of supporting evidence, believe that Russia (or more precisely, Vladimir Putin) are blackmailing, and thus controlling, President Donald Trump.

This nonsense has been going on for... how long now? How many months? It's time to, as they say, "put up or shut up". Where is the solid, irrefutable evidence that Mr. Trump is being controlled via blackmail? The person who started this discussion (Androbot01) has presented nothing credible to support this baseless claim, instead preferring to link to a couple of disreputable British tabloids (the "Mail" and "The Globe") that have a notorious reputation for hyperbole and distorting the truth, and yet we are expected to accept this?

Come on, this just isn't good enough. The Democratic Party lost the election, and there is nothing you can do to change that outcome, so stop whining about it. This is nothing more than "sour grapes", reflective of a profound inability to accept reality as it is, coupled with a juvenile unwillingness to simply move on and get over it. I would not be at all surprised if we began to hear about how Mr. Putin is also responsible for "global warming" as well! It's ridiculous, stop it, this just isn't funny anymore.

There has been no investigation made public. The leaks suggest that the most outrageous claims made in the dossier were false, but more and more parts have been confirmed. Edit: forgot to add. This is a classic counterintelligence tactic

We will probably never prove that Trump had a garbanzo bean, but it really doesn't matter whether he did or not. Only an idiot would think they can control a narcissist with any predictability, so the whole blackmail thing if it ever existed was a dumb idea sure to backfire.

Trump has business interest in Russia, probably through shell companies set up by the more experienced Russians. This was probably set up by his people, a bunch of very rich, very connected people with flexible ethics. Trump did get a very nice ruling from a Chinese court right after he announced, but it only took effect on 11/9. He didn't even have to ask.

We need to investigate what actually happened.

At least there was a point to the Obama birth certificate conspiracies. this is a wild goose chase into nothing. Partisans really need to get over the fact that they lost an election and to stop deflecting all responsibility for why they lost, there paranoid delusions shouldn't be entertained.

A cabinet member has resigned. Nothing it ain't.

No, there was nothing to Obama's birth certificate, save deliberate delusions by racists.

What's the tally of people connected with Russia leaving Trump and friends so far? I think it was 3, but I could be wrong.

This isn't the Democrats being sore losers- this is a serious issue that should be looked into.. PERIOD! If you want to talk about someone being sore- it's Trump. He's being a sore winner with his near weekly comments about how he won so big over Clinton. He has skewed the facts on how he won numerous times. He still thinks many voted illegally and he would've won bigger if it was "fair".

If you want to talk whining- Republicans did it for 8 years when Obama was president. Guess what they did? They whined and blocked him at nearly everything. Now it's the Democrats turn to do the same. DEAL WITH IT, that's how politics work in USA unfortunately. They can't get along- so it's always a power struggle.

Anyway..Trump needs to release his taxes- one of several promises he still hasn't done. People can whine and claim "taxes don't matter", "most people don't care about taxes" and so on. There's plenty of proof people DO care. If the taxes really don't matter- Trump needs to man up and release them. What's so secret on them that he can't do it?

The Republicans have no shame- when they are voting in rich elite/big oil lovers over qualified people! People like Kellyanne Conjob and Betsy "donated tons of money to people" DeVos shouldn't be employed in DC right now, period.

Overall.. I find it a bit disturbing how many people think Trump's picks are fine, even the very unqualified ones. A surgeon shouldn't be running housing. A woman that has almost no experience in education shouldn't be running education. A person that tried to take down EPA is going to run it. It's clear these people just want to profit in any way they can, especially at the America people's expense/tax dollar. The rich elite/big oil friends are just about the only ones that will benefit from Trump's presidency. Horrid.

The Globe & Mail is a Canadian newspaper published out of Toronto. It is slightly left of conservative, but not wholly liberal. Since you've discredited yourself with this mistake I won't bother to respond to your accompanying hyperbole.

There was at least a birth certificate in question which Obama eventually released, there is zero evidence of any connection at all between Trump/Russia. It's completely baseless in it's premise, it's just a desperate attempt at rationalizing such an embarrassing loss without accepting any of the blame of their own. The Russians are totally why Hillary abandoned campaigning in the battleground midwest and was wasting time/money running up the score in huge media markets or chasing dreams in places in like Arizona/Texas/Georgia. At the very least they should fall on their swords as total incompetents.

At the very first it looked like a jaw dropping incident. "The Russians hacked the election". Which turned out to be a blatant phishing scam a child could have pulled off, that an idiot fell for. The investigation yielded nothing of significance, even though they pretended speculation and innuendo counted for something.

Then there was the thoroughly absurd supposed Russian blackmail dossier that had absolutely zero credibility.

And all along there's been the secret alliances with Russia rumors over and over that have gone nowhere.

Of course they have nothing to put up or they would have already. The whole idea is to generate suspicion and nothing more. They're not going to hire an outside investigator, because they'd get fried if they did.

All very entertaining stuff.

If there's nothing to the Russian/Trump story, why was Flynn fired, and why is Putin's American fixer and former Trump advisor, Paul Manifort, in hiding?

That's a lot of blanket statements from multiple voices on the right. Y'all have gone back to very simple and plain baldfaced assertions which multiple trusted sources dispute. Trump asked elected and appointed officials with security clearances to crush the NYT story, and some complied. It's not getting crushed, and that kind of monkey business really annoys people.

However, if repeating the claims of the committee chairs mollifies you, go right ahead. I feel more disturbed that, like you, their conclusion seems to precede their investigation.

I thought it was just one. In any case, assuming it's three, each of these cases would have to be looked into individually, and a "connection" to Russia is, in and of itself, evidence of virtually nothing. Having friends or associates in a foreign country isn't a crime, nor should it be.

Now you're trying to change the subject. Yes, I also consider Donald Trump to be immature, selfish and vain, but all of that is entirely beside the point when we are discussing an alleged attempt by Vladimir Putin to blackmail him. There isn't any - ANY - solid evidence for this, just innuendo. Gossip is something I don't take at all seriously; it's the kind of thing that N.T.'s indulge in.

Maybe they did, but again - we're talking about an alleged attempt, by Vladimir Putin, to gain control over the U.S. president. Where is the evidence for it?

I don't care about his taxes. It isn't relevant to the topic of discussion.

Yes, I know they have no shame, but - once again - this isn't relevant.

So now we're talking about "Trump's picks". I thought we were discussing Trump himself.

No worries.

Questions about the contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials have now embroiled the nation’s highest law-enforcement official.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was twice asked by the Senate Judiciary Committee about contacts with Russian officials during his confirmation hearings in January, and on neither occasion, did he detail any contacts. But The Washington Post reported Wednesday night that Sessions, then an Alabama senator, had in fact spoken twice with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, during the 2016 presidential election.

Having to ask why indicates there's still only speculation, suspicion and innuendo to work with. But nothing actually confirmed. It's all still up in the air like vapor.

This makes me think of the McCarthy hearings from the 50's.
