Maybe it is mainly hardcore liberals posting to the internet then.
It is. I follow the BBC, it's loaded with Liberals who defend certain aspects such as universal healthcare. When confronted with the fact that while they may have universal coverage, if they die while waiting to be seen, it's as good as having no healthcare, they scream 'evil Americans!'
Liberals believe that if they have the illusion of having something, they have it. Who cares if it only works in theory. As long as they are holding a universal healthcare card, that means something.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread and turn it into universal healthcare, that was just the only thing I could think of, off hand. I've had many arguments through the years on the BBC, the only impression it left on me is that some people have a need to be blind to the reality of a situation.
I said it before, I have three mixed grandchildren. All over our little town I run into women like myself, loving and looking after children of all races. I'd consider myself a voter who is living my truth. I am conservative, many of them are conservative. No where in my book of conservatism does race factor in! But, we aren't in the spot light, mowing down innocent people. So, I guess we don't count (it would hurt the overall image of conservatives as Nazis, if we did). For every nut bag who makes the news, there's hundreds of thousand of good people living quite lives and fighting for equality in our tiny homes.
I am so tempted to respond to your post, but as you said, it would derail the thread.
I am overjoyed that racial intermixture is becoming more common in the south, as the inbreeding among southern whites has always been a problem.
"as the inbreeding among southern whites has always been a problem". According to what actual evidence?
Case in point - the infamous hatvilles and McCoys still brag of being entirely of one or the other family. White southerners make great pretense of being just of Scotch-Irish descent, and with little else in their gene pool where there has historically been a low population.

No I have not been defending whats his name. I have barely said anything about him. I have said there are those who have been opportunistic and exploited the situation to politicize it.
I mean look at your commentary here. We have been defending the jerk, while you have been crying your eyes out. But it just comes off as crocodile tears. If Heather Heyer had been murdered under different circumstances you would not have given her a second thought. Enough with the holier than thou phoney waterworks.
It's not crocodile tears, but otherwise you're right - - had Heather Heyer been killed any other way she wouldn't be remembered. She's remembered because she died fighting against hate and intolerance, and that's why we honestly mourn her. The fact that you ignore this fact shows your argument to be disingenuous and meant to be anti-liberal, as it's obvious.
Maybe if it did not come off as such an opportunity to politicize against the right, it would sound more sincere.
According to what actual evidence?
The evidence of the magic, magnifying mind!
There is inbreeding everywhere, but mostly because of poor intellect and isolation. It is not attributed to one area over another. But, it feeds the machine of contempt. So, it's expedient to make such claims. Anything to demonize ( which is odd, considering that's what conservatives are always being accused of ).

Well, West Virginia succeeded from the confederate states. So, that half is on you.

Maybe if the GOP didn't either turn a blind eye to the radical right being welcomed into their ranks, or even try to justify it, the rest of us wouldn't be so critical. Donald Trump in the light of day opened the door to them (though it's been going on covertly for some time) with his talk about Latinos being criminals, and Muslims being terrorists, and along with his denigration of non-white foreign countries as s**tholes. There have been plenty of Republicans who agree with me, and many of those have left the party in disgust. Many other Republicans have taken up Trump's racist mantra.

West Virginia is a tiny part of the south, not half of it. They left because they understood that the glorious "cause" was nothing more than a rich man's war in which poor men fought and died.

Maybe I am starting to paint everyone with the same brush like a Republican. I do have the utmost respect for white southern writers like William Faulkner and Robert E. Howard.

Good for you! Although I like Faulkner, he's one of two authors that leave me wanting to shoot myself after reading their work. The other is Hemingway. If you want to be severely depressed, but not suicidal, read Steinbeck.

I have read a couple of Steinbeck's novels which I've found enjoyable. These days I find myself eating up fiction by Charles Bukowski and William Burroughs.

Well, you and I have become civil with one another, so it can't be an entirely bad thing.
