1) I'd like to know how a person can be held to adult responsibility yet not have the same rights as an adult.

2) Spanking is not bad. Spanking done badly is bad.

3) This is pretty much a global issue. Anyone should have an opinion in this matter.

You don't like my post because it brings about the reality you refuse to face, corporal punishment does not do anything but teach a child fear. Why are you so adamant about defending people who terrorize children, and steal away their childhoods and innocence? I find it fascinating that the most adamant defenders of spanking, are those who have been spanked themselves. It seems almost as if they would rather perpetuate and continue the abuse, rather than admit it happened to them, and that it was wrong. Perhaps it's easier for them to believe there was some purpose or reason to why they were hit.

How many people have to state quite clearly that their childhoods and innocence were never "stolen away" before you accept that not all events of corporal punishment are soul destroying rapes of mind and soul? No, I was never particularly beaten, nor to my memory bare-ass spanked, but I received several clips and got whacked across the back of the legs a few times. I was never abused, my parents certainly were not rapists or terrorizing me, and in every case there was an obvious reason for such punishment.. ie I was engaged in activity which was wrong, dangerous etc etc.

A generation of adults live in fear of their children. Why is this? Because those children have NO FEAR of any reprisal or punishment AT ALL from any force, be it civilian or legal.

This link explains why some people, despite common sense that hitting a child is wrong, will defend spanking:

If you consider caring about the well being of children, an "obsession".

I'm curious about something. Do the police and prosecutors have any evidence against this child other then, the child so called confession? The child's confession most likely will be throw out since the child's fifth amendment right was violated. The police who questioned him, never informed the child of his rights. The child didn't have a lawyer or a guardian present while they were interrogating him. In the video of the interrogation, it seems that the police coerced the child into making a confession. The whole thing stinks.

These cops should start doing some old fashioned police work and actually try to figure out what really occurred. Instead they bully a child into a confession.

Did the kid commit the crime? Maybe yes, maybe no. We will never know now, that poor kid has been tried and convicted before he even got a trial, by people like Fnord and many others.

Good point about the confession. I wouldn't be surprised if it were thrown out if this ever makes it to trial. There's a good chance he might be ruled incompetent to stand trial.

From what I understand, there is physical evidence such as shell casings, the weapon, and the spanking tally. There's a gag order on the case, so we don't know how much evidence the police actually have.

More details. It looks like the police botched this interview and violated the kid's rights. They may have coerced a confession from him.

it looks like the boy never had a chance, he could have been confused by what happened and forced to confess to different things that didn't even happen. when i was arrested at sixteen i was forced to have a solicitor present and had to wait no less than four hours in a cell for her to turn up. why was the boy treated so badly?

Smacking/spanking is wrong you cant hit your husband or wife why can you hit kids they are little and deserve protection. There are other ways to discipline kids like timeout and I support them.

Spanking your kid is wrong is just an opinion.

I think empty threats is wrong because it teaches your child to not listen and they grow up to be spoiled brats because they don't follow the rules. They don't take things seriously.

My mother had always followed through with her threats. If she said she was going to do something, she would do it as a punishment like she said she would. If she did empty threats, she would make it look like she was going to do it like she pull the car over and tell us to get out and we all be screaming and then she say "Then stop fighting" "Then stop goofing off and sit still and be quiet."
