It's about where you draw the line...It's been > 1 month and I have never seen anybody in public cough or sneeze which is extraordinary. I am thinking of people who have allergies, it must be killing them subduing the urge or dosing up on antihistamines (which BTW are also out of stock).

But make sure that the final mixture is *at least* 70% - 75% alcohol ( of pure/100% alcohol ), or apparently it won't be strong enough to kill bacteria or viruses. Rubbing alcohols are already usually diluted to around 70% strength, so as to be not overly harsh on skin. If you dilute it more with water or oils it won't work.

Thank you for maintaining common sense. The University of Queensland here in Australia is aiming to start clinical trials on a vaccine in June (we were the first I believe to have sequenced the viral genome). The vaccine should be ready by November.

Yep, the 70% alcohol concentration is considered the minimum and also the active ingredient is stopping viruses/bacteria.

Theories currently regarded as conspiracies say that due to some genetic similarities to HIV and Ebola, the Covid-19 virus may never be "cured" in a person and may just go in and possibly out of remission. Or that eventually the treatment for those infected with Covid-19 will be lifelong antiviral drugs like those given to people with HIV and that survival would be contingent upon such drugs.

Who knows what to believe at this point, but I firmly stand by my conviction that the world doesn't know what this virus is, hasn't determined where it came from and we don't know the long term effects and consequences of it. Hopefully it does resolve itself with minimal loss of life; that is what we all hope for rather than the possibility that this virus ends up being the most catastrophic thing mankind has experienced in relation to its potential scale.

I think thinking of all possibilities of low threat to moderate to severe is warranted. I don't think being mindful of the possibility that this virus is more nefarious that it currently appears to be is the same things as panicking.

Straight alcohol / vodka works too. Isopropyl is what I use. I'm sorry I thought rubbing alcohol was the same thing.

Gotta first get the isopropyl alcohol. I went to the store planning to buy isopropyl alcohol, but instead had to resort to a bottle of liquor. I have to work with 40 percent, the 40 percent is good enough to work if used straight, but not good enough to be mixed with something else like where I have heard to add aloe vera or something.

I have been making this point for some time.

Isopropyl alcohol is effective as a disinfectant although it has a faster evaporation rate.

Fortunately the doomesday preppers aren't chemists....

China seems to have reached the worst of it, and the rate of new incidences are in the decline.
I don't see why there wouldn't be a similar trend/curve in other countries, also.

Based on what the experts have said, well some of them at least, the coronavirus *is* "relatively inoffensive" for many/most people.
Some people don't even know they have it until they are tested.
Some people seem to be ignoring this.

Apparently people's panic reactions are surprisingly rational, if unconsciously guided, in the case of death rates that are higher than normal.

If a country's normal death rate is around 9 -10 per 1,000, as it is for example in many European countries, then people won't be that bothered by illnesses which have a much lower death rate and/or don't cause the usual rate to rise more than a statistically limited "margin"/variance factor ( ~10% of usual rate? ).

Normal annual/seasonal flu has a death rate of around 0.1%, ie of 1 in 1000. In other words it is not experienced as a threat, certainly not once a vaccine was found for it.

Coronavirus/covid-19 on the other hand has a death rate which may be as low as 6 in 1000, ( the 0.6% in South Korea, still a significant addition to normal death rate ), but may be as high as 7%, which is 70 in 1000, as seen in Italy. Even the current "average", somewhere between 2% and 3.4%, ( 20 - 34 in 1000 ) is much much higher, all on its own, than the usual/"resting" death rate in most European countries, and so there is serious fear and panic.

I heard that the nevessary testing on humans plus manufacturing times and distribution arrangements meant at least a 12 - 18 month wait?

Ref China; it's because they imposed extraordinary lock down measures, for nearly 2 months there have been gigantic social control systems in place ... which most countries elsewhere either show no signs of wanting to imitate or would find very difficult to copy as effectively.

Trump hysteria, plain and simple. There is a highly contagious virus, but at least we don’t have a female president.
