Earlier, Darmok posted this story about the parents of an 8-year-old girl who had been dressing her up and posting Internet pictures.parodying AOC, calling their child " Little AOC ". They had taken the photos down, claiming to have received threats (death threats?) But not in any way producing or even describing these alleged " death threats " in any press on the story that I saw. They announced that AOC should really pose with their 8-year-old. I flound this a bit much. I felt this came off as " Stage Parent Syndrome " citing the real life cases of Judy Garland's mom and the dramatization of Gypsy Rose Lee and June Hacoc's mother in the musical " GYPSY ".

i hope she has good bodyguards.

Inspired by Greta's Friday strike, today there were 3,000 demonstrators in Saskatoon, SK, ten times more than I have seen for similar events in over a decade there. In Montreal, there were 300,000. She certainly has struck a chord with the NTs.
Here, we have usually had weather quite similar to that in Siberia, where I watch a web cam that has the same latitude about 180 deg E or W. This year, they have had it too hot for comfort, and we have had a very cool year. Rain and even snow are ruining the harvest. Without Arctic ice, the winds are finding new preferred routes.

And the deniers think those who believe the end of the world is around the corner are silly.

And likewise the acceptors say any scientist who says the end of the world isn't around the corner is part of a conspiracy.

So it goes both ways.

Where I am in Western Washington, everything has been normal to the point of being perfect imo. We had a nice cool summer. It wasn't really until towards the end of summer that it started getting warmer than I like it, but was still normal. Fall arrived like someone flipping a change season switch. This weekend snowfall in the mountains is expected.

Based on that speech given by a girl back in 1992, they were saying the same kinds of things about the weather back then as well. So as a layperson it's hard for me to know exactly what to believe. If I go by early 90s predictions I should be living in a wasteland or already killed by the climate by now.

No one says "end of the world" or planet per se, but major climate change will affect how humanity lives and speed up extinction of numerous species. We may find things getting uncomfortable as the years go by, and need to make great changes in order to cope. I have a 2 year old nephew and two nieces. I often wonder how their future will be. The planet itself will remain as it has for 4 billion years of so, but the life on it faces significant change unless we do something urgently to turn things around. Tesla foresaw these things 100 years ago.
