Iran is ruled by insane zealous clerics; and anyone who thinks their nuclear ambitions is limited to electricity and industry is frankly either fool or ignorant (like the Democratic Americans, it seems) of their religious doctrine. They are not rational people like us normal people.

Khomeinist Shi’ism is bizarre Doomday cult within Twelver Shi’ism, and the most radical form of it fixated on a prophecy. Side note: the Najaf’s majority of Shia scholars (the original homeland of Shi’ism reject to this day the fairly new “Khomeini doctrine” and the whole Supreme leader concept; I would say in few years or a decade the Twelver Shi’ism will be split into two sects; it’s already happening in Iraq in a bloody way; and to a lesser extent in Lebanon.

Back to this Khomeini’s cult, their main motivation behind EVERY action they do in politics (the supreme leader and their clerics) is a “preparation” for the Imam Mahdi’s return; who was the 12th Imam disappeared as a boy and the Twelevers believe in his return, alongside with Jesus, to cast the final judgement upon humanity in the world’s last days; who would “raise the sword” and destroy the enemies of Islam and the “Antichrist” (which many of them interpret that he, the antichrist, may be an enemy state, not a person).

They believe that when the pre-judgement time comes and after the Al Mahdi’s victory: “Jesus will enter the temple, breaks the cross, kills the pig and impose the Jizya” whatever that means.
Let me point that “raising the sword” is a metaphorical Arabic term for “waging war with weapons” ... so the “sword” can be a sword, a gun... or something much bigger and mass destructive?

I have known many Iranian muslims and they claim the majority of younger Iranians don't subscribe to this type of fundamentalism. Would it be possible for an "Arab Spring" to occur in the future?

Saying Iran has been building a nuke is sheer ignorance and based on Israeli propaganda. Psychotic Netanyahu has been saying they are six months away for the last 25 years. He took a cartoon drawing to the UN of a bomb. Even the CIA said they aren't building one. They'd need to be around 95% uranium enrichment to build a bomb but they are around 5%. They are entitled to enrich it for energy as they have signed the non profilferation treaty. Where as Israel hasn't and has hundreds of nukes with the help of stealing from the US.

The CIA and FBI are a joke, anymore. Israel hasn't been threatening to nuke Iran or anyone else, for that matter. All they have ever said was that they would defend themselves if attacked. Iran has been posturing, spoiling for a fight with anything that moved for as long as I've been alive. Iran wants to bring on the end of days, only they are too stupid to understand that it's not their job.

You seem to think that because some countries have Nuclear capabilities, all should. But when you are f'ing crazy, the world balks at the notion. THEY need to set up windmills, or solar panels, or whatever alternate energy sources the climate accord is so hot on. It would be the first action Iran has taken with the world's best interest and not their own.

@TFoB -off topic, Persian language is kinda cool. I can read it too but some letters are different; p, o, ch, g, eh, v, S/Ss/s & s, Za (tha). It is kinda difficult at times. The arabic word aina, still spelled the same in Persian is een (أين). Some of those words the Kurds can understand too.

How can you be sure that the Supreme Leader is saying the truth regarding the 5%? How can you be so sure that there’s no second facility hidden somewhere. Iran is a big place. Look up for the term “Al Taqqiya”, it is the divine right that the Khomeini cult believes for lying for the sake of a religious cause or the benefit of the nation.
Why else Iran, a country very rich in oil and gaz is so desperate for having nuclear power while it has tons of much more pressing economical matters to address first; if it’s not for future military uses? Because the apocalyptic CULT doesn’t give a s**t about their people; these guys act everything on the basis of their awaiting doom prophecy that I have explained in detail in the previous page.

Some westerners make the mistake that these people think politics reasonably; separating religion and state matters like in their own countries: Wrong, for them, politics is a way to achieve religious goals; religion is their priority.

I agree with Persephone on this: Insane people must not have any potential nuclear capabilities; Iran in its current form must not be allowed to have 1% of nuclear technology.
