A person is not less dead if it happened in New York than it happened in Nebraska.

It just means the NYC area was unlucky that they took in the vast majority of flights from China and Europe during January and February.

NOT blaming anybody for that.

Coroner: Cause of person’s death was not COVID-19

The Montezuma County Coroner’s Office is disputing the state’s claim of a third fatal case of the coronavirus in Cortez, saying the person died of alcohol poisoning.

County Coroner George Deavers said the person tested positive for COVID-19, but an investigation by him and the pathologist determined the cause of death was ethanol toxicity. The person’s blood-alcohol content was 0.55, or almost seven times the legal driving limit of 0.08 in Colorado, Deavers said. A BAC of 0.3 is considered lethal.

“COVID was not listed on the death certificate as the cause of death. I disagree with the state for listing it as a COVID death, and will be discussing it with them this week,” he said Tuesday.

Now let's compare it to the map of urbanized areas in the US:

1/3 cases in the worst-hit aglomeration, 1/3 in other badly-hit aglomerations and the rest of US has the rest of aglomerations... and a lot of sparsely-populated area.

Generally, maps of <some phenomenon about people> in the US are always misleading because of very uneven population density. The same goes with e.g. maps of political preferences by state/county.

Apparently my state its currently over 1,100 deaths and 4,160 hospitalizations.

There is some funny artifact in data: There are less reported deaths on Sundays and Mondays. Regularily. On Tuesdays it goes back to the regular trend.
Probably somehow related to procedures but it's strange to see it on such a large scale.

My country is not there but from other sources, it appears to be similar to Serbia, with overall death number lower than expected for this year (slightly higher compared to previous years but lower after taking ageing of the society into account).
Latin America appears to have massively under-counted CV deaths.
