Update from the non-racist podcaster:
Quote:
The US podcast host Joe Rogan has issued an apology over his past use of racist language on his popular show.
A widely-shared compilation video showed him repeatedly using the N-word in early episodes of his show, which has been running for over a decade.
The 54-year offered his "deepest" apologies and called his past use of the slur "shameful".
Rogan also apologised for making a racist comment about visiting a predominantly black neighbourhood.
He said he "felt sick" watching the compilation, and wished he could take his comments back
I ended my long-standing subscription to Spotify in summer 2020 over a combination of Rogan getting more of my money than artists I like, and UI changes I didn’t like. I’m pretty satisfied with that decision as I have managed to hop around music streaming providers and constantly get good deals.
While I think it’s fair to say Rogan probably isn’t as bad as someone like Dave Rubin, I am feeling pretty smug that I was ahead of the curve in noticing that he’s a useless dick who is in deeply over his head and has questionable values.
All that being said, Rogan does defend some of his comments as being quotations from Tarantino. While I don’t think there’s anything wrong with quoting Tarantino to discuss the morality of using racial slurs in art or education, I do think you’ve got to be pretty damn stupid to record yourself doing it if you’re not black. Enough people are going to find it objectionable that it could come back to haunt you.
Don’t see any contradiction in people who are anti-establishment criticising each other. People’s reasons for being anti-establishment are varied. Rogan is an MMA commentator who criticises “the establishment” from a conspiratorial right-wing anti-intellectual standpoint. Young and Mitchell are musicians who musicians who criticise the establishment from an anti-capitalist, anti-war perspective. Yeah, they’re going to disagree on things. And lol @ the idea that multi-millionaires are ever truly a threat to the establishment… all of them are part of the establishment.
