Did anyone see that when the Queen met with Liz Truss, she had a large bruise on the back of her hand? Like it almost covered her hand. I thought she might have worn gloves to hide it. But maybe she didn't because she was inside.

I've heard it talked about, looked into it, and found this article dated all the way back in March 2019

"Queen's purple hand is indicator of SERIOUS arterial health condition

A LARGE purple discolouration covering the Queen’s hand, shown in recent pictures from the palace, is one indicator of serious health concern peripheral cyanosis, which in turn can reveal arterial and blood supply problems.

Royal fans raised fears after the nation’s longest-serving monarch appeared with a deep purple blemish on her hand while welcoming the King and Queen of Jordan to Buckingham Palace earlier this week. Buckingham Palace has refused to say why the Queen’s hand has turned purple bruise but a medical condition called peripheral cyanosis - which refers to a bluish discolouration to your hands and feet – could explain why the 92-year-old’s hand is covered in the huge mark. The condition is usually caused by low oxygen levels in the red blood cells or issues getting oxygenated blood to your body
."

I think that's an incorrect diagnosis because when I looked up images for peripheral cyanosis they showed discoloration of the fingertips. More likely it was a condition called senile purpura.

I'm sure we would all like to be that sharp and lively right up to the end, especially at 96.

I seriously doubt she was misdiagnosed (she has access to the best medical specialists in the UK) but its possible what was reported to the media was misinterpreted. Don't forget at 96 she merely had to trip over in the bathroom and she would be in ICU

I was talking about the theory held by Rebecca Perring who wrote the Express article. I think both then and recently it looked more like senile purpura than peripheral cyanosis. And I'm not the only one:

Quote:
That could be due to senile purpura, NBC News senior medical correspondent Dr. John Torres told TODAY via email.

I doubt the public will ever know for sure as Buckingham Palace etc have always been pretty tight-lipped about the queen's medical information.

I think the NBC news doctor speculated it could be senile purpura based on photos. Symptoms might visually appear ambiguous until you do a examination in person and run precautionary tests.

It's none of our business really anyway. She was 96. She wasn't going to get over anything that was remotely serious at that age. Even little things can be too much for people in their 90s, such as heatstroke.

People that age also lose the will to live. Whatever anyone thinks of her she has always been conditioned from a young age to a sense of duty to hold herself as responsible for the monarchy, She learned that from her father King George during WWII when she was a young girl who saw her people making enormous sacrifices and volunteered to help.

I don't think she's ever come to terms with her daughters in law Sarah Ferguson or Diana. When Meghan Markle and her grandson Harry spilled so many personal secrets in interviews it must certainly have effected her. The final straw is her own grandson set to publish his memoirs. I don't think she wanted to be around to experience the public humiliation of what Harry is to reveal.

I think out of respect for his grandmother Harry should jettison his book deal. It's now incredibly bad taste the way his is making money from humiliating his family, It now looks really dishonourable.

Most likely the biggest toll by far on her came from the loss of her husband of nearly 74 years. After his death she started becoming absent from events. And then passed away less than a year and half later. She called him her rock.

I think you're right, the emotional and mental toll of the Queen's life played a big part too.

But I think old people often just wear out. My grandma (97) was fine on the Saturday. Then on the Sunday she had a lovely roast lunch, sat down in her chair, and just stopped functioning. She just ground to a halt, like a machine just stops working. She was with her friends at the nursing home, she'd just had a lovely meal, she was sitting in a comfy chair, she wasn't ill.

Also my uncle (91), he was full of beans, chatting up the ladies etc. although he had a lot of health problems. He went into hospital for treatment for his bad leg. He went to sleep one night, and just didn't wake up. He wasn't seriously ill, just a bit uncomfortable with his leg, but his body just had enough.

Both of these examples seem like a good way to go IMO.

I don't know if I'd want to live that long. I'm already starting to get a little bored with life.

This seems more likely - my father was prone to the same alarming discoloration shortly before he died at 94; his skin looked paper-thin and was very easily bruised. Many elderly people are prone to the same thing, especially at 90+
Plus, the Daily Express tends to be sensationalist

Honestly I have mixed feelings about the Queen's passing away.

I understand how important she was to the British people, she was like a part of their proud culture kept alive in an age where most monarchs in the world are long gone.

But my sister who is very much a human rights activist told me not to mourn her and that she was not a fan of the royal family because of some of the horrible things they did to countries under British control. Like India for example, I've met a couple of people from India who told me about just how much hate and contempt they have for the British government because of people like Winston Churchill.

But why visit the sins of the father onto the child?

She was of her time, but still adapted to move with changes.

Yeah that's true, honestly I focus more on the fact that she seemed like a very strong matriarch to her family. And England seems like it's always been known for having strong women lead their country like past Queens such as Victoria and Elizabeth I to Prime Ministers like Margaret Thatcher.

And now they have a new female prime minister Liz Truss which I think is pretty neat. :D
