I returned from my shopping excursion to town. Since I am old and one possible option by state and federal government is to direct those over 65 years old to shelter in place for awhile, I gave it some thought. I decided that I was low on dog food. I have a big dog and he eats a lot. So I decided that I should stock up on dog food.

I went to Sam's Club (big box store) first. The parking lot had around 4 times the number of cars for this day of the week. Last week when I went there the greeter handed me a cart after he meticulously cleaned it with a disinfectant wipe. This time I entered the store and there was no carts and no disinfectant wipes. All the carts were out in the parking lot. So as I entered the store I noticed a woman pushing a flat cart. She had five 60-pound sacks of dog food. I thought to myself:

Oh Noooo! I'm too late. There is a run on dog food.

Well I walked to the back of the warehouse and there was plenty of dog food, so I immediately filled my cart with two bags. In walking around the store, I observed the following:
No toilet paper.
No hand sanitizer.
No paper towels.
Minimal cleaning supplies (laundry soap, dishwasher soap, etc.).
Food was down around 70% on the shelves. Some items such as Ramen Noodles had a limit of two.
Everyone was nice and courteous, no shoving or pushing.
One of the other things I found was a couple bottles of Drambuie (Scotch whisky liqueur infused with a secret blend of heather honey, herbs and spices.)

I have decided for the next few weeks, me and my wife will drink a hot toddy every night before we retire as a precaution for the coronavirus. [I take 3 tablespoons of Drambuie and put it into a coffee cup and stir in 2 teaspoons of honey and warm it in the microwave for 10 seconds and pour half of it in another coffee cup for my wife.] And then drink it slowly over the next 15 minutes. [I reasoned that if isopropyl alcohol used in making hand disinfectant gel can kill the coronavirus on my hands, a very different type of alcohol can kill it in my throat. So I am combining old world and new world solutions to the coronavirus. I was a little concerned that heating up Drambuie in the microwave might produce an explosion, but it didn't.

Then I went to Krogers grocery store. Many shelves were almost bare. There were only a few loaves of bread left. Really bread! You would think someone posted a winter storm watch. But what surprised me even more was the total absence of flour. The shelves were bare. I purchased the last 2 five pound bags of sugar. Most of the frozen foods were gone. There was a limit of 2 per customer on gallons of milk and dozens of eggs. Many of the meats were in short supply.

So general advise to Aspies. The herd has panicked and is moving. Best to go along with the herd. If you haven't stocked your food supplies, it may be time to do it.
