I know, I called him out by name, sorry if you thought that was you Macbeth. Personally your statements have been rooted in logic and aren't near as bigoted as a certain other person.

Heh, I know. It just helps to be clear for other readers, because those little boxes get tricky to follow after a while, and If I am to be belaboured then I prefer it to be for things I actually said.

As I understand it a degree of "racism" or ultra-nationalism is ingrained in Japanese society and has been for a very long time. Japanese activities in war, whilst inexcusable by western standards, were for the most part within their own understanding of honour. The problem lies in how far a nation or race can be taken to task when their belief system contains precepts which are reprehensible to others.

Also, it seems a little silly and short-sighted to write off a nation/race as never being capable of being a dominant power again. It isn't only military strength that creates power. Look at Chinese economic dominion...

Well at least they're finally acknowledging that they did something very horrible. As much as I dislike the fact that the US dropped an atomic bomb on civilians, I get annoyed when people act like the we were the only badguys in that situation. I mean you reap what you sow right?

The Japanese ruling class sowed the wind at Pear Harbor and reaped the whirlwind at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Should the USA apologize for invading Mexico and stealing a huge chunk of their country?

Should they be sorry and if so should they give the land back?

How long should you hold a grudge? In Northern Ireland the protestants insist on annoying the catholics every year by marching through catholic areas saying "Ha, ha. We kicked your butts 300 years ago".

Perhaps the Indians should march through the streets of New York shouting "Ha, ha. We kicked Custer's butt and wiped out the 7th cavalry.

Before spain was conquered by the spainish it was owned by mesoamericans. Given how much land-stealing went on during prehistory, a lot more of the earth is "stolen" than you might think.

Yes. All of it. There was an ancient race in Britain who got knocked over by the Celts.
Then in came the Romans who took over.
Followed by the Angles and Saxons.
Followed by the Normans.

So who should apologize to whom?

No one should. It is just human beings doing the human thing --- pillage, plunder and rape. Rape is responsible for useful mixing of various gene strains producing a hybrid and strong human species.

Sounds good to me. :D
Can we form a club where we get together every Saturday night for a bit of plunder and rape?

No, seriously, ruveyn is right. Primitive tribes in Africa, New Guinea and Australia used to raid the neighboring tribes to steal women.
This was a GOOD thing. Otherwise the tiny tribes would have become inbred and died out within a few generations.

Isn't nature strange?
