It is actually wrong even if the other person never knows or finds out. But of course, you are right about many people thinking differently.

So how do people vent? How do you vent?

How do people vent about their bullies?

I see some trash talk on here by members when they whine about their families or how they are treated by other people and wouldn't that be trash talking strangers or their families?

Personally, I try very hard to avoid using words like "you", "s/he", "they" and "those f'ups" or whatever else when I am hurt or angry. No matter what anybody else might have ever said or done to me, I still do not have any right to actually "trash talk" them. That does mean I have never done that or never do, of course, but nobody ever gets anything actually good out of my calling someone else a worthless piece of sh!t.

at least she's not this guy.

anyways, she ought to realize that blogs aren't private and kids are nosey enough to google their teachers. I thought everyone knew this, but perhaps my paranoia serves me in ways that others miss.

Well I kinda wanna say serves her right.......I am not a fan of talking crap about people behind their back like that. Especially a teacher dissing on students. If she hates her students so much maybe she should not be teaching.

What the attitude she expressed in her blog affecting how she performed in the classroom? If she was failing her students, then it is right that she loses her job.

Well I don't know if I where a student and i found my teacher talking crap over the internet and saying hurtful things about the students I would probably have a hard time taking them seriously as a teacher. I mean seriously if she hates teaching that much she should not be teaching......not to mention students knowing their teacher is talking crap about them behind their bakcs might piss them off a little bit and effect how well they pay attention in class.

Teachers are going to get bad students too and also get frustrated with them. Other people who have clients are going to get frustrated about what clients they get, even janitors will get frustrated about people they have to clean up after, or housekeepers in hotels will get frustrated about guests. It's all a cycle and there is not one job out there where you will have perfect people.

Maybe she does like her job but gets frustrated at times about her students she has. Maybe her blog sounded like she hates her job and she is miserable when really she was ranting about some students in general she gets off and on. Maybe she was frustrated with the school system too and how they don't handle things well so she vented in her blog to her friends. She thought her blog was private because she didn't think someone would find it. She never showed her url anywhere so I can see why she think no one would find it. Maybe she didn't know Google caches things and it ends up in their search.

Like she is saying, her blogs are being taken out of context.

And if students hated it so much what she said, why not start going to class and quit skipping it, quit goofing off in class, start paying attention, start doing their work assignments and start being prepared every time they go to class?

I have heard things being said behind my back and it would change me because I would realize how I made them feel. One time I over heard one of my friends talking and she said how I kept getting her Polly Pockets every time she invite me to her birthday. I then knew I won't get her one then next time when she invites me again. I didn't go playing the victim being all upset about it saying how she talked bad about me. I just wished she told me she didn't want any and I would have gotten her something else. She was the one who acted like she liked them and took interest in them so I thought she liked them. I didn't know she didn't want any. But of course she didn't call me names like stupid for giving her Polly Pockets. She was just talking about it to another person.

Then if I heard kids were saying how mean I am, I would demand to know why they think I am mean and what did I do. But sadly I didn't always remember my actions and would think it never happened. And if people thought I did something they think is mean and I don't think it is, I didn't care.

A teacher got suspended for venting about her students in general in her blog. Unfortunately one of her students found it and read it and reported it. Then somehow other students and parents saw the blog too as well. That blog was not meant to be seen by anyone else but her friends and family. But unfortunately she didn't have it set private, she had it set public where anyone could see it. Obviously internet illiterate. She even used her photo too as her blog avatar and signed her name as Natalie M, a dead giveaway. Not very smart.

Why all the "unfortunately"? She got what she deserved.

She has a right to hold a low opinion of her students. As long as her blog posting does not substantially interfere with her carrying out her contractual duties, why does she "deserve" what she got?

So if you are frustrated about people, you don't rant about them, it be unfortunate for you if someone found out you ranted about them or if they caught you talking about them? Are you telling me you will never rant about your bullies or rant about how someone treated you?

And seriously people rant on here all the time about their friends and family or work. What if they were caught what they posted on here? Would you say these members got what they deserved if they got punished for their post? What if you were caught with one of your posts and you got punished for it, would you say you deserved it?

Oh and a few years ago I even made a post about my ex talking about how he doesn't like me talking to my friends online who are male and I asked if it would bother them if their own partner talked to their online friends who are not the same gender as them. He read it and didn't take it well and got upset with it. But at least he wasn't mad at me. He was logical about it and explained himself to me, he listened to my perspective from that post. I honestly thought he didn't want me talking to my friends because he told me he didn't want me talking to other men except aspies and the ones I have been friends with for a while.
I thought he didn't want m talking to any new ones or make any new online friends if they are males. They had to be aspie if I make new ones. Okay so I said bad things about him even though I didn't insult him. But what if he was one of those people to not take it well? What if he got mad at me and screamed at me for talking behind his back on a public forum he goes to as well and totally ignores what I have written ignoring my point of view? Lot of people are like this and this is what I am always on about when it come to these things. You don't need to insult people behind their backs for them to not get upset when you talk behind their backs. But unfortunately he quit posting here over me because of that thread. I felt bad but at the same time I was annoyed at his paranoia about what he was fearing what people thought of him now. I told him lot of people will forget about it and not even remember who the user is I spoke of. He outed himself in that thread by replying. And I will never tell anyone his user name due to privacy.

Heck I have even had friends telling me how someone is a "b***h" and saying other nasty things like "idiot" "moron" "stupid" and even my parents do it too. They say how stupid people are or how stupid someone is or how they are not very smart. My mom has called my school staff stupid behind their backs because they didn't want to follow my IEP and they tried to put me in another school in a classroom with violent kids because I kept getting into fights with my bullies. She has also said they were lazy because they didn't want to work with me. They wanted to do things their way and do things they found easier. Now what if they had found out she had said that about them and decided kick me out of their school, would you say my mom got what she deserved because she spoke the truth about them? Or what if they decided to file a lawsuit against her for "slander." She has said that about them after I wasn't going to that school anymore. I be talking to her asking why they wanted to do this or that or why they did this or that or didn't want to do this or that and she tell me those things.

What if her blog were private and password protected and one of her students hacked into it because she used a weak password, would you still say she got what she deserved? It sounds like to me you are saying people are not allowed to rant about their issues when it involved other people and if they get caught, they got what they deserved.

In general, I don't think it is a good idea to post any personal identifying information on the internet. It is too easy to determine a persons identity, where they live, what their house looks like, etc. And the internet is forever. There is no telling what a person might say in a blog that might set someone off or who they may eventually deal with for it, even with no ill intent.

If people were talking crap about me, online or otherwise, I'd want to know about it, and when I did, I'd sort it out.

Oh I thought you meant talk to them about it and see what you can do to fix it. Like the students saw the blog, they should have gone in and confronted the teacher about and it and ask what she meant in her blog and if they do anything that pisses her off and what they can do about it. You know talk about it. That's something I would try doing as a kid when I would find out someone said things about me like I am mean.

No, if someone genuinely gave a s**t about you fixing your problems, they'd discuss them with you politely, not talk crap about you online.

Teachers often don't have the resources to deal with problems. They find themselves stuck in systems that fail them and the kids. I think that if teachers had any kind of power to actually deal with any of the problems of teaching, then schools wouldn't be the way they are.

I can totally understand her desire to let off some steam about things that she can't do anything about.

She might even be hiding compassion behind a veneer of sneering.

Let's use her misfortunate example to our advantage; if you must slag off, don't do it where it can bring consequence.

Her problem has been solved though, as she now doesn't have to deal with the kids. However, new problems arise with the end of old ones.

There are lots of unwritten rules about teachers. There was a teacher in my state who lost her job because a parent saw her buying a six pack of beer. Becoming one I found out you are also immediately objectified into being a self-sacrificing asexual mother figure. (I can't talk for men in that regard.) And we're expected to teach 150 kids a day (in high school) get paid a pittance and take our work home with us. And being a teacher is a sham IMO - it's a glorified dead end job. There's so much about it to vent about that she only touched the tip of the iceberg. But back on topic, clearly she wasn't thinking when she goofed on her settings.

Blah blah blah. I could write an essay full of complaints. Even so I actually like teenagers and have a very caring relationship with my students but still, it's driven me to seek psychiatric help.

The worst part is in the current economy, if you hate it it's hard to get out of. If venting online is something that will help prevent her from crossing the line at work or having nightly dreams about work, good for her. Freedom of speech, like the other poster said.

Also, kids snoop. I used to have my own personal website and my students along with other kids in the school, blew my site stats through the roof - I was getting 12,000 hits a month - on a static site. I had to take it all offline. She should have known better. Collectively, the kids can be like a vetting team. They will find you online if you're not very careful.

god, I'm sick of seeing myself type this.

I am sure she has tried talking to the whole class about it and none of it improved. I know mine would talk to the whole class about our behavior even though I wasn't the one who did anything wrong but I didn't take it personally. I figured she was talking to the ones who were guilty.

No one knows the whole story when they read a blog.

I don't think it said that was the case in the article. You can't just assume she did that, because if you're the type of person to b***h about people, you probably wouldn't.
