I have never taken a day off due to menstruation.
I go to work and work harder so that I can maintain the same level of productivity despite feeling like crap.

Or should women be given "extra points" merely for having their reproductive organs on the inside?

It's because the article itself is trying to imply that women in general take off work over menstral cycles when in reality it's not the case for MOST women. The person who wrote that is really trying to entice more prejudism over how a woman's body makes women less worthy of having a job. Just like how so many people say women shouldn't be presidents over periods because OMG if the female is on her period, she'd make us go to war!! ! Ummm....men don't have periods yet all they do is have wars.

This same old idiotic phrasing dealing with women and periods is a masked attempt of validating women getting paid less or treated as lesser than men.

Ah, yes ... the old "Slippery Slope" argument. First an assumption is made as to the "real" intent behind a claim, and then an assumption is made as to the adverse consequences, which increase in severity to an exagerrated point where the original claim can be easily ridiculed by those who object to the claim.

We're equal but different - women-specific health problems shouldn't be held against women, they can effect attendance and performance however on the flip side as I stated above women bring benefits to employers too - the problem is treating men and women the same.

It's not merely having our reproductive organs on the inside, it's the cycle on a whole and the effect of menstruation both physically and emotionally - if men's penises went through a monthly physical process that also effected the emotional and mental health, where there was agonising pain, vomiting, migraines, mood swings, excessive blood loss, etc. THEN it would be fair to keep both men and women on the same attendance points.

I should know all about how much it sucks to have periods. I'm having the worst cramps of my life right this minute. I have to lie down and use a heating pad and shoot my body up with tons of caffeine. Even using both remedies at their peak I still feel pain here and there.

I hate that this is the second year in a row I get super cramps during the 4th of July weekend. My family wants to drag me to do stuff and I get grumpy because my cramps hurt me so bad. I have to drink soda for the next couple of days in order to lessen the pain.

My cramps are so bad it requires 2-3 days off work each month depending on the severity.

I can relate. My periods used to be SO thick, they would go right through the pads and no matter how hard, I tried, I couldn't keep contained. I couldn't do anything or go anywhere.

Oh yes, women have it so rough ... yet men die from 5 to 10 years sooner than their female counterparts.

If you're sick, then get it treated.
If you're not sick, then get to work!

Historically men have been more likely to die earlier due to wars, gruesome industrial accidents, smoking and different lifestyle choices. Male and female life expectancy is getting closer.
