How could holding women to the same standards of performance and attendance as men be considered "the short end of the stick"?
Or should women be given "extra points" merely for having their reproductive organs on the
inside?

We're equal but different - women-specific health problems shouldn't be held against women, they can effect attendance and performance however on the flip side as I stated above women bring benefits to employers too - the problem is treating men and women the same.
It's not merely having our reproductive organs on the inside, it's the cycle on a whole and the effect of menstruation both physically and emotionally - if men's penises went through a monthly physical process that also effected the emotional and mental health, where there was agonising pain, vomiting, migraines, mood swings, excessive blood loss, etc. THEN it would be fair to keep both men and women on the same attendance points.
Oh yes, women have it so rough ... yet men die from 5 to 10 years sooner than their female counterparts.
If you're sick, then get it treated.
If you're not sick, then get to work!
