The system will fall
I favor collapse, most will not notice. Lehman Brothers? Bear Sterns, Merrill Lynch, Countrywide, lots of banks, and nothing has changed for the people.
They did not supply our food, they lived off of increasing debt, and a lot of debt vanished with them.
Crops will still get planted, the consumer is still 70% of the economy, money is just a means of exchange, and worthless tomorrow, could be replaced the next.
Same people, same assets, same labor, now debt free.
China has already refused to loan us more, Europe is broke, the oil states have no choice, we pay in wheat. We can name our price, we can last longer with less oil than they can with no food.
There comes a time to cut your losses and fold. Government Pensions at more than future tax income? Done by the same people, So double taxes, less services, or keep up the services, and not pay what was not provided for.
Government services make more than the private sector, they can pay for their own retirement, healthcare, just like the rest of us.
We are not unable to maintain the core services, it is the illegal self serving governments, their friends in weapons, oil, that have looted our world. We are under no obligation to pay for illegal acts against us.
We vote the government out in 2012, start over, with all of the country and people. Multi National Corporations are not us, they hold assets abroad, avoid taxes, we did contract war for the Gulf States and China, making war on Islam, they can pay for it.
Drug Lords and Dictators will not like it becoming worthless, but the new half ounce of silver coins will look nice, not be exportable, and if you want to sell in our market, there will be an import tax, and you will be paid in what we produce.
We have a strong consumer economy, great human capital, good education, and a bunch of blood sucking leaches. Bring on the salt!

Can it be fixed though? The society has only brought me pain...so why should I want to keep it intact? I am all for change but I feel like the best way might be for the system to collapse then people will have no choice but to figure some sh*t out.
Maybe it is beyond repair. But not attempting to fix it will guarantee the very thing you predict. When the boat is sinking you -try- to plug the leaks. You -try- to pump out the water. You -try- to bail the boat out. If you don't -try-, you will surely drown.
ruveyn
exactly and if it is beyond repair it is inevidable either way.......also depending on the state of the sinking boat would determine the course of action, if there is any hope of patching it up and pumping out the water long enough to get it back to shore then go for it.........if not well maybe it would be better to abandon the damn thing and grab an object that floats to avoid drowning.......or life jackets work well to.

Not true. If things can be fixed or fixed well enough you will have a chance to live a normal life-span and have children. There is always the chance of success.
ruveyn
What makes you think I want to have children, or live a normal life span? Especially the having children part I have a difficult enough time taking care of my basic needs/wants because of issues that interfere with my functioning so what the hell would I do with a child?......fixed well enough is still pretty broken if you ask me, especially the current system. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better, but then again there is no garantee it would get better but that's with or without the system failing.
The System Will Fall.
There is only one reason for it to exist, to support the People.
The basic problems of Capitalism are over production, and expanding a Credit Bubble.
Based on leveraged assets, they then try to make 10% a year out of a saturated market. Excess Capital is the problem.
It then shows up a making bribing government legal, price fixing for excess profit, and exploitation of very People that all systems are set up to provide for.
Blaming the Customer for not liking the goods offered, claiming that everything would fall apart unless they buy, and they would be better off dead, is followed by wraping yourself in some flag, and talking to the sky.
Repairing a worn out and defective system is the most expensive path. We are not on a sinking ship, we are in a land of plenty, and some want more than their just share at the expense of others.
We have no shortgage of food, clothing, shelter, medical care, land. What we have is a few people in the middle misdirecting resources, for their personal gain.
There is strong evidence that Capital has bought Government, like the $16 Trillion loan made at 0.25% recently. Evidence that it does not work as a system, and that it has currupted what it was created to do.
$1 Trillion would pay off all Student Loan Debt, and at 0.25% Interest, they could be paid off by those who got them. Currently 6-8%.
$10 Trillion would buy all of the Mortgages, and at 0.25% they would be paid off, and the housing market stabilized.
$5 Trillion invested in workforce education, beyond school, broad healthcare, developing a national sewer and water system, regional developments. would produce the system we will need in hundred years.
But The System gave it to their friends, to play the food and energy futures markets.
The System Will Fail.

Well one of these days I'm going to have to go down to the local protests and participate........screw what the criticizers say about the protesters........at least they're freaking openly standing up for what they think/belive and I should do the same. still kinda hope they system collapses though.
I don't believe the system works.. and honestly.. And I don't think it matters who would be in office.. Every year there are more and more people who graduate High School and are unable to both afford college and can't find a job..
I have seen so SO many people right out of high school become homeless.. And honestly There are fewer and fewer jobs, more and more people.. The economy is going to s**t..
And I don't honestly care if you believe me because I am merely stating my opinion, but The year 2012.. The Apocalypse.. It is the year of change.. and I believe it as such.. I believe this coming year the world will see a major change.. and government will become obsolete as far as whole countries.. I believe humans naturally form groups and such will happen as the world starts to fall apart..
I also don't believe in this big "society" who wishes to make us all conform to certain stereotypes.. And honestly I believe in Depressive Realism.. That many people are depressed now not because of a chemical imbalance, but because they are seeing the true reality right now of the world's situation..
The one thing all the protesters can agree on is that the system is broken. The proposals to fix it are many, varied, and in some cases mutually inconsistent.
We have to fix the system. Unfortunately we will have to fix the system while there are still people inside it. The ship is in peril. We have to plug the leaks, and we don't have enough life boats.

Not true.
That is simply a piece of right wing propaganda to justify raping the poor more.
If the entire worlds banking system collapses right now the only wealth destroyed is the imaginary wealth. The world will still have an identical number of pots to piss in, an identical amount of food an identical number of houses etc etc etc.
What you mean is the banking system doesn't have enough imaginary life boats for the 1% to fit all of their imaginary wealth in so that means real ordinary people will have to drown so there is more room on the imaginary life boats.

If I do not tender imaginary money to the store clerk, I do not get my real merchandise.
What happens when the money is worthless. Look up what happened to the Weimar Republic as a result of the hyperinflation.

That it is.
That imaginary money had real consequences among which as A. Hitler.
When tendering money for goods is required, the money is NOT imaginary. It could be sound or unsound but it is not imaginary.

I don't advocate socialism, but I don't advocate letting rich companies get theyr way politically either.
Injustice like that always has unintended consequences.
