No. Politicians should not be placed on any special pedestals.

I also think the principal should be apologizing to that girl.

The first amendment was specifically written for the purpose of affirming our inherent right to tell our leaders that "they suck!"

Everybody involved is protected by the 1st amendment.

Brownback admitted that his staff made a mistake, and apologized for the incident, and vowed to protect freedom of speech. I think the whole thing was partisanized, and people were thinking that it would never have happened if a Democrat were governor, and if it did, the reaction would be "let bygones be bygones". Most people replying on Yahoo were demonizing Brownback for being a Republican, not for the incident in question.

People are still slamming Bush (sometimes to the point as trying to get a warrant for his arrest), even though he has been out of office for nearly 3 years. Although I don't think that either Bush's or Obama's performance have been what I would call stellar, but these people should let it go regarding Bush. He can't "hurt" anyone anymore.

No, we shouldn't let Bush or Obama off the hook. They are both still hurting us and have committed crimes against the American people. Both administrations have passed legislation against our rights for Habeas corpus and unlawful detention. Bush's administration is still influencing Obama's decisions. I hold a deep grudge against both of these men.
