Ineptness seems reign supreme in the LE community.
Beyond simple incompetence, the real problem in LE these days is too many cops, too many toys, and not enough real crime to chase so they start getting "creative" looking to make work for themselves. I take the ferry in and out of Seattle, and occasionally it's shadowed by LE swiftboats with mounted M249s clearly visible; as if they could do something with those if someone say drove a carbomb onto the boat. My little town got a post 9/11 anti-terror grant from the feds and used the money to upgrade from Remington 870s in the cars to AR15s and equip a SWAT team, as well as hire way more cops than we need for our town of 20,000. Now they spend all their time setting speedtraps and writing as many tickets as possible to cover all the excess people and equipment, it's gotten completely out of control.
Oh you are going to looooove this! Do you remember the guy who ran to work during viaduct closure, and got hit by a truck? Here's what SPD officers had to say at the scene:

that sucks...cops do that too. You can hear all kinds of insults on cb radios in the police frequency.
I agree with Dox though...police have too many toys and no enough to do.
