Think that's bad (which it is, don't get me wrong)? ACTA is an international version of SOPA. Too bad no seems to give a s*** about that as much, even though it affects most of the western world and is on verge of being ratified.

Sorry about that, but yeah there's quite a few bills out there as bad as SOPA. The fight is far from over, it's only begun.

Wait wtf? how does that work...who is trying to pass this exactly? I guess we have a world government now or something?

It's an international treaty signed by various governments including nearly the entire EU, U.S, Australia, etc, most of the western world practically. From what I read, ACTA bypasses senate and only needs Obama's signature to sign it into U.S law.

Well there went the last of my faith in any organized government.....though I admit I did not have a whole lot but now any that might have been buried deep inside my soul or whatever is gone. Now it really is citizens vs. the governments, obviously this is just the start of even worse things to come.

But I suppose one could not ask for a better time than 2012 for sh*t to hit the fan.  :lmao:

I remember saying to myself on New Year's Eve, "2012 will be a very interesting year". Boy, my expectations were far exceeded.

Well now all that needs to happen is the Eurozone economy collapses and war breaks out with Iran and we shall have the most epic clusterf*** of events. I deem 2012, the year of WTF?

The Great Year of WTF! is finally here, and humanity will face its greatest challenge yet, surviving the ensuing chaos of the coming s**t storm of epic proportions while keeping their sanity. Will they survive or is this finally the end?

Not quite correct. By signing, the US Government is indicating that it will administer existing law in a fashion consistent with the agreement. Where US law and the agreement come into conflict, it is clear that US law must prevail.

When international law covers everything, is that when the government dissolves?

But could SOPA and PIPA also be seen as representations of what ACTA is basically asking for? If so, couldn't that imply that those laws were the U.S government approach to comply with ACTA?

It seems like it.

I was talking about sh*t hitting the fan, not the world ending....sure it will end as we know it, but I don't think its going to cease to exist.

Legislatures cannot be compelled. While these legislative initiatives might be seen to be consistent with ACTA, there is nothing to require a legislature to enact legislation in any particular fashion.

Legislatures can be constrained--but only by constitutional law. It seems to me clear that no action by a US President can put Congress in a position where it is obliged to enact anything. And further, Congress remains free to legislate contrary to Presidential action, which then (absent a veto), prevails.
