That's disgusting.

The US is only one step behind though with many people who feel the victims of rape should be forced to conceive their rapist's child.

Nothing more to add to that.

I really have to wonder how far behind culturally we are from the rest of the industrialized west.

In some cultures, they usually do see it as the victim's fault. There was a case in Somalia where a 13 year old girl was stoned to death because she told on authorities that she was raped. She was stoned to death for adultery. It just made my blood boil. Here's an article about it.

I'm aware of that, Iran is like that too unless the woman has five witnesses saying she was raped and didn't want it. I often don't understand why it's the victim's fault the rape occurred. It even happens in the USA too, rape victims are called sluts or seen as the bad guys when they are raped except they don't get charged for being raped.

when shrub was generalizing about the middle east as "islamofascist nations" it felt uncomfortably like the pot calling the kettle black.

It's what the Middle Eastern god demands. You know, Yahweh / Allah / Jehovah / Jesus' daddy. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 says "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her."

This is from the Bible, mind you, not the Koran. Although I have little doubt that the Koran says exactly the same. This is what happens when people legislate Abrahamic religion, and that's why we need to get rid of this nonsense. It's pure evil.

Even Orthodox Jews do not permit such goings on.

That is what happens when Bronze Age ethics are practiced in the 21 st century.

Jesus in fact had said that the people were allowed to have their way with their absurd and heartless laws, due to the hardness of their hearts.

That verse isn't necessarily relevant to modern times. A lot of verses like that (Old Testament) are ones that when you read them, you have to understand the culture at the time they were written. Back then, the idea of a woman having any rights at all and not being viewed as property was a very foreign and radical idea. Biblical times were not the same as the 21st Century, so the ideas, values, traditions and whatnot were very different.

it would be good if we could all fervently pray that those people wake up and see the light, and soon.
