Re being the parents of a killer, have you read In Cold Blood lately? It takes a fair look at how the family of a killer feels, what happens to them. Of course it's not worse than what happens to the family of the killed.

There are serial killers that generally grow up in abusive households.

There are also those that simply become overwhelmed with the misunderstanding and and prejudice.

It must be very hard to be the family of someone who kills another then kills themself... Because who is to say the parents didn't try their hardest?

It's not like anyone on this site encouraged the murder.

this is exactly why there is no safety anywhere. as much as wp is a safe-haven for all of us, unfortunatly it can also be the focal point of much contreversy. it seems unsafe to post personal things about yourself anywhere online, for fear of other people tapping into your life and scooping up what makes you who/what you are. YET another story, as seen before about aspergers seen and viewed in the worst possible light. just what WP needs. like many complaints of mine in the past (regarding AS characters on television shows and movies) this too adds to the pile of crap. stinking garbage. i really hope that alex can get himself out of this, and hire a good lawyer.

if people are going to be violent on here (w/out a disclaimer) then they should be banned.

Many of us would, if necessary, give money to help support the site. Myself included.

There isn't here in Australia, but over the net I'm hearing more and more horrible stories related to AS, and this time WP too.

Something must be going on.

find a place i can sort of fit in and it gets sued . This happened a while ago why'd they wait so long.

i find this kind of hard to believe. The authorities can't possibly check up on every threat anyone has ever posted on online forums. they wouldn't have time for anything else

It says they tried and failed to reach his parents, thats more than most sites i've been on would do.

Here's my opinion...

You always hear about how some school shooters have published hit lists on their myspace or facebook or whatever. Yet myspace isn't getting sued. I seriously doubt that any lawsuit against wp would go anywhere. The people who have posted their hit lists or whatever on their myspace have stated an intent to harm someone. As I understand it, this guy only mentioned that he was contemplating suicide - not harming anyone else. If anything HIS family would have a crappy case because he mentioned suicide. The victims' families seem to have NO case, since he never talked about harming others.

Also, this case would be a jurisdictional nightmare. Seriously, who has jurisdiction over the "internet". Alex could just move the site to a hosting company in Poland or China if he wanted to. Gambling websites are supposed to be illegal in some states. Does it stop them? NO!! They have no control over who goes on their site. They can put up a disclaimer or something about people from a certain state not being allowed there - so what? You get around that by lying.

Belive me - I will keep being a bit nervous until this all goes away, but it will be in the back of my mind that it's seriously not worth it to anyone to even pursue this case.

If someone come on here posting that he was going to kill himself, I would proberly think that he is nothing more but a guy looking for attetion.
I cant see the family winning a suit against WP when this type of stuff happens all the time on different forums especially when they have trolls doing this.

This lawsuit is obviously a huge set up to get free advertising of WP on the news. Shame on you, Mr. Plank.

If Wrongplanet gets successfully sued, then I have a whole list of people I plan on suing for ridiculous things

is also psychopaths. That means 1/100 aspies like 1/100 non-aspie easily got what it takes to kill.
