Not all officers are oppressive, power-hungry bigots. This may be true of some, however it is not true of the others who would lay down their lives to protect a citizen.

it is a mixed bag- some join to seek legal sanction for their evil, some others join so as to find official expression for their altruism, but most are in the broad middle somewhere.

I'm not a big fan of cops myself but this guy's a dumbass. Way to fight the power, rack up felonies over a little f*****g weed possession charge.

Police: Farmer unhappy about arrest drives tractor over 7 sheriff's vehicles

A farmer who was arrested last month expressed his displeasure Thursday afternoon in Newport by driving a heavy tractor over seven police vehicles owned by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, authorities said.

State police estimated the damage at about $250,000. No one was hurt.

Roger Pion, 34, was jailed for lack of $15,000 bail at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport to await arraignment Friday morning on 11 charges.

Pion is facing seven counts of felony unlawful mischief and one misdemeanor count of unlawful mischief on suspicion of damaging the cars, State Police Detective Trooper Lyle Decker said.

Decker said Pion also is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, grossly negligent operation and aggravated assault on Newport City police on allegations of trying to back the tractor into a city cruiser after fleeing the original scene.

“It’s more than half our fleet. We have 11 cars,” Chief Deputy Sheriff Phil Brooks told the Burlington Free Press. He said the cruisers were in three rows.

He said all the vehicles were insured. Brooks estimated that the cruisers averaged about $40,000 fully equipped. He said at least one cruiser had a laptop in it. Other equipment, such as radar, were in the vehicles when the tractor ran them over.

“It’s pretty much the biggest tractor you can get,” Newport City Police Chief Seth DiSanto said.

“It was a massive tractor. It has four 6-foot tandem wheels on the back. It was red. It must be at least a 15-ton tractor,” Newport Express Publisher Ken Wells said shortly after the incident. The tractor had slightly smaller tandem tires on the front.

The tractor was owned by the suspect’s parents, Armand and Linda Pion of Newport, police said.

Brooks said five of the damaged vehicles were fully marked red, white and black cruisers, and two were unmarked, including a transport van. He said an eighth car, belonging to the department bookkeeper, was pushed out of the way by the tractor in an effort to get at the cruisers. It had minor damage.

hahaha i saw this on tv and laughed so hard. it was worth it i reckon. so rarely do i get to see the cops have it handed to them( the three times i've seen it happen this year in my own country not included and the EU not included).i don't think i'd have done this if i were them, not the wisest thing to do, but it gave me a laugh and the pigs deserve it.

The pigs did not get hurt at all.the pigs will soon get brand new patrol cars.Vermont and northeastern vermont in particular is very rural and cops are few and far between.police are now short equipment this is a hardship on people who live in remote areas who may now have to wait up to an hour maybe if they have an emergency.because remote counties like essex county have donated patrol cars to the orleans county police who are now short multiple police cars.now essex county has very few cars,so people there are vunerable to being unprotected against crime.

how effective are the police in protecting people against crime or stopping it? it's not why they were created and half the time they are the perpetrators of crime. i dont feel safe around them at all. quite the opposite.

Yes the police are very corrupt but police presence does prevent a certain amount of crime.if you were being a victim of crime i think you would be very happy to see the police.when i was robbed at knife point driving a taxi i was never so happy to see the police show.the detectives wouldnt lift a finger to go and find the robber but when that patrol car arrived at the scene of the crime a lot of fear subsided

I'd feel some sympathy if he was falsely arrested or they beat the crap out of him for no reason but to me in this case it seems like he got arrested for something he actually did.

I live in a small town in a large metro area… The biggest crime problem around here is drug trafficking/gang activity. My neighborhood is very brown, very poor/working class. It could also be a very bad, very dangerous neighborhood, but it is not. It’s a nice quite, safe place thanks largely to the character of the people here AND highly visible police presence/involvement in the community that keeps the scumbags away.

At least once a week, I’ll be hit by a spotlight when I’m walking my dog at 3:00am. I like that. It gives me peace of mind that my stuff is being protected when I’m working overnight…

Sure there are downsides to having so many police around—I got ticketed a block from my house for no seatbelt (a horrible, overbearing law), but it’s a small price to pay for a good, quiet neighborhood.

Actually, I'm in the Boston Mountains... That's a wee bit south and west of MA. Boston is my favorite city in New England, however.

The Boston Mountains are in the southern midwest--MO, OK, AR region. I guess that's more than a "wee bit" south and west of MA.

Sorry for the confusion...
