We only set up the tree about two weeks prior. We don't do thanksgiving in NZ.

There's probably also people who set up the decorations as soon as they see the ads pop up on TV, too...

Well, it used to be that we started our shopping frenzy on "Black Friday", the Friday after thanksgiving. Now stores are starting to open on Thanksgiving in order to beat the Christmas Rush. Nothing says "Happy Birthday to Lord Jesus" like half-off consumer electronics, apparently. I'm not even a Christian and I'm indignant about it.

While I do agree about the parenting skills of the mother, and the situation in general, I have to wonder this: Who puts their presents under the tree this early? Let alone put up the tree? Some people's timing of the Christmas season baffles me, sometimes...

My family and I put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving.

Some members of my family start their Christmas shopping in August.

my family actually did lights this year and everything without me this year. I'm so proud of them. College really does make them self sufficeint and not have to need me. I love college. it shows how truly independant they are.

(and yes, that was sarcasm, for those of you who don't get it)

Niirti? where in the seven powers of darkness are you from?

I'm from Memphis, TN, which incidently, is where cops had to use pepper spray to subdue 40 students fighting in the school cafeteria, gang members out-number those in the Honor Society and an armed police officer ended up in ICU because he was assaulted by kids......at a high school assembly.

The high school I attended had a riot the year before I started going there. The cops had to use pepper spray there, too. One time, during my sophomore year, there was a fight between two girls, and one of them was pregnant.

I read the same story at Pravda.ru ... I was hoping it was one of their silly "fake" stories, like the ones about aliens. :)

It was real, damn... :(

How sad.

the only thing interesting that we had happen at our high school was we had one of the art teachers swing a golf club and hit the sprinklers. that was funny and dumb.

(I went to a christian high school)

We also had a gay cheerleader, who left because we asked him to. We had a couple of girls get pregnant. yeah, so thats the only excitement that ever happened at our school.

Ah, and I was probably the only ASpie that made Homecoming court at my school. sophmroe year.

When I was in Junior high, several of the senior girls were very obviously pregnant by the time we had our awards night. There were also various fights in the playground.

I wish Super Nanny would visit the family across the street. They have a boy who is 6 or so who puts on the most dreadful tantrums sometimes. His little sister is so good, you never hear a peep out of her and he is good for his dad. When his mum is around, he kicks up a big stink if she does something like stops pushing him on his swing when it is time to cook dinner.

I mean, a kid that big should be able to swing by himself. If he is so naughty now, he is going to be a real handful by the time he's a teenager.

Back to the boy who opened his present before time, I think it was silly to put the present under the tree so early. We don't usually put up trees in Australia until about the start of December. It's better to hide the big and important presents and just have a few smaller ones around the tree until Christmas morning.

There are so many things wrong with that story.
It looks like he was expecting to get a gameboy advance for Xmas and knew which present it was. My son is doing the same thing and we haven't bought his expected gift yet. We thought about not giving it to him but he hasn't done anything jerky yet. He hasn't opened the gifts. But he is obsessed about it.
See, in my family, big presents were hiddlen and usually reserved as "Santa" gifts-even long after we knew there was no Santa. Under the tree were the recognizable gift boxes of See's Candy, socks, sweaters. Occasionally there was a surprise gift with corn in the box so it would throw ya off when you shook it.

Anyways, that woman is letting the gov't teach her son the wrong things. She needs to love him and sometimes that means telling him no. If she is that overwhelmed she should let someone else take care of him. Calling him a criminal at 12 is just wrong.

I am a firm believer in the "boys will be boys" philosophy when it comes to this.
