The most viable solution seems to be this: for Greece to leave the eurozone and slowly, painfully, trade her way back to wealth.

I came across something rather interesting:

http://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet

If you look at the tables that can be generated, you'd see that unemployment started going up big time in 2008, it also should be noted that it was during the time that we had a Democrat controlled congress (they got control in January of 2007).

Also if you look at the numbers the highest Bush unemployment number was 7.3%

In August of 2008 we had 6.1% unemployment, 8.1% unemployment August of 2012 (and that's not counting miilions of Americans that have given up).

From 2004-2007, unemploymnt was below 6%.

Looks like Bush and the Republicans had the better policy. The reason our economy is still struggling is because Obama is trying to be more like Greece.

Or maybe, the 2008 rise in unemployment was a long term effect of the Bush economy.

Kraichgauer if that were the case unemployment numbers wouldn't be this high still, and in reality they are a lot worse than have been reported because it doesn't count the people that dropped off the rolls cause their unemployment insurance ran out.

Fact of the matter is there is a lot more stuff that has come out, however I'm waiting on confirmation before I post it here.

They wouldn't be so high? Huh? The damage Bush and his friends had done to the economy can't possibly be fixed in a mere four years. Especially since the congressional Republicans and blue dog Democrats had worked to see that his policies would fail.

Maybe you should look up the definition of compromise in an actual dictionary (for that matter Obama needs to as well).

Obama's idea of compromise is his way or the highway, but that is not compromise, that is the very opposite of compromise.

The fact is they were opposing Obama's policies because they were bad policies.

Passing Obamacare without even bothering to read it? Hey if someone tried to get me to support legislation that I hadn't had a chance to read, I'm not going to support it.

Here's a better idea how about they released the text of the bill to the general public before they voted on it, and actually read their own bill.

As I recall, Obama did try to negotiate with the Republicans. The Democrats had offered to water things down, only to have the Republicans say they still wouldn't vote for it. The Democrats had no choice but to go it alone. My only criticism was that they hadn't gone for expanding medicare for all Americans.

Look I'll be fair about this, a lot of the blame concerning the fighting should fall on the shoulders of Pelosi and Reid, whom when it looked like there may be some common ground reached, sabotaged the negotiations.

So I'm not going to pin all the blame on Obama, when it should fall on Pelosi and Reid for trying to do their best to ram through their pet projects along with trying to antagonize Republicans. Where Obama screwed up was he should have told Pelosi and Reid to stop behaving like juvenile delinquents, instead he gave them a pass.

I think Obamacare would have been very different if Obama had told Pelosi and Reid to start from scratch and we may have actually seen a piece of legislation that wasn't a unconstitutional disaster area (despite the court ruling (which there are indications that intimidation was used to get that particular ruling)).

Well, if you consider the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare to have been unconstitutional, perhaps you'll also then agree that their ruling that corporations are people is wrong.

Nope, however the decision of whether or not a corporation donates to a political campaign is the decision of the stockholders.

The real reason Democrats wanted to keep corporations from being able to donate to campaigns is because they didn't want all that Big Union money offset by some other group.

If a Union with their fat-cat slobs can be considered a person, than a corporation should be able to do the same.

Yeah, except for the fact Obama is trying to turn this country into Greece, so we can see the end result of what will happen if Obama gets another 4 years to wreck this country.

I'm normally not one to indulge in on-topic nazism, but it seems like, and no offence intended, you turn every discussion of foreign (To us Americans) politics into some sort of attack on Obama.

You don't like Obama. I can understand that. Why don't you start a thread about it in PPR instead of hijacking every other thread in N&CE.

The policies that people are preaching for (the same ones that got Greece into their mess) are the same ones that Obama is pushing for in my country.

The reason why tax hikes will not work for Greece is quite simple, the size of a country's economy is not a constant. When you hike taxes, (particularly in the case of a country like Greece (and any other country in an economic slump) you end up shrinking the overall size of the economy and thus you end up with the same revenue in a best case scenario, but more often you end up with a shrinking revenue for the government.

No one ever said unions could be considered a person - and neither are corporations. And as a matter of fact, there has been an active effort to silence and break unions, taking away the voice of ordinary working men and women.
