HOWEVER: It seems the killer has a loathing of prostitutes, so provided you're not leaving business cards in call boxes at the moment, you shouldn't have anything to fear.

I tend to agree. I think in certain states of the US, and in Australia, brothels are legal, and remember seeing a TV programme once which showed the girls in some establishments were relatively well looked after. I suppose that kind of setup is not a complete solution to treating members of the oldest profession with some decency, but it seems better than the situation we have here.

What's interesting in watching media coverage of this kind of thing is how prostitutes are usually portrayed as victims. That contrasts with how their clients, especially kerb crawlers, are cast more as the wrong-doers. That's not so evident in the current reporting as the police are trying to suck-up to all for information, but it's certainly a general feature of reporting.

Louise, be careful. Always carry a phone and an alarm, tell people where you are going and how long you'll be gone, and don't go anywhere ill-lit or remotely dodgy. If you live alone, consider moving back in with your parents for a while, if you can.

I dunno why I told you that, I'm sure you're more than capable of working it out for yourself.

I'm going to shut up now!

Heh, thanks. I did already know that, but it's good to have the reminder, and it's nice to hear someone expressing concern. :)

I agree that it should be legalised, too. Women are going to do it whether it's legal or not, so the government might as well put some effort into helping them be healthy and safe.

Oh yes I agree with Tequila on the legalisation of ladies of the night. Plus, there should be some byelaws regarding fees why can some women charge £50 a night and Julia Roberts £4,000 there needs to be an upper limit. Anyway what is terrible is that some of the women had been mising for months, becasue of their trade police tend to ignore missing prostitutes.

I do think this individual (likely male) is targeting prostitutes, criminologists are speculating the perpetrator could be someone they trust; a drugs worker or a man of the cloth.
Well Werbert it was'nt you cos these women were not attacked with a weapon but strangled, which means the attacks are personal plus the guy shames his victims by leaving them nude in the countryside. Poor gals.

Er, I don't see why? If clients are willing to pay what it costs, let them pay it as long as there is no coercion involved. I'm one of this dwindling band of folk that think that adults should be allowed to do what they want with their own bodies so long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

The only problem with the 'industrial estate' idea that I can think of at the moment is that people living there can be very narrow-minded in a NIMBY sort of way even it wouldn't affect them. And local politicians would be eager to jump on a bandwagon by opposing an otherwise quite reasonable new initiative.

Is killing only prostitutes considered to be an aspie trait?

Sadly there are quite a few mimbies out there, actually I once walked to an industrial park near Stratford, East London I visited the local MFI which was hideous, anyway I noticed there were quite a few saunas and massage parlours on the site.

There ought to be places like there are for gay men which are a bit like Roman spas where they go for a dip and a spot of socialising in the steam rooms. Legalised and safe, maybe legalise the smack too, not sure about that one not read all the arguments, where is heroin legal?

We never knew what happened to Jack the Ripper, so what if this is still Jack, returning once again.

In a memetic sense, perhaps. Other than that, or "ripping" is a family business.

I have a theory that its a prostitute doing the killing, trying to get rid of the competition.

???

I hope you're being facetious. Anyway, this morning, I saw (on Sunrise, an Aussie breakfast TV program) that a reward has been offered in the area.

He's been a busy boy (sorry for the Hannibal Lecter quote).

OK, so what do we know?

I'm going to use some profiling terminology, but I won't attempt to profile this fellow. The only thing I will say is that it's a male (most likely, anyway).

We (that is, the general public) know:

*He targets prostitutes, aged in their late teens or anywhere in their twenties. There a few known common features between the victims, save their relatively young age, and their profession. He is deliberately targeting them as people who normally would not be missed, although this appears to be a miscalculation.

*He dumps his victims either in rivers, or in woodland. The latter occurred seemingly (I think) after media coverage of the first two deaths, suggesting a possible change of MO.

*One prostitute, Paula Clennell , was interviewed by the media about the first few murders. She later disappeared, and one of the latest bodies found may be her.

However, the police (understandably) would be witholding aspects of the crime scenes from the public in order to filter out any cranks

There are many military bases in Suffolk so men in uniform are now in the frame. Theres an army, American Air Force and RAF base near Ipswich, men of social standing / a person the working girls would trust include police officers, taxi drivers, lorry drivers, migrant workers, farmers these are the kind of people police want to investigate.
I think it could be a copper or a vicar!
