I do think climate change is legit, and from what the weather guys say, warmer climate = warmer ocean water = more powerful hurricanes. That's not to say that every storm that happens from now on will be massive, it just means that the with a shift to warmer weather and warmer ocean temperatures which will tend to allow for larger, more powerful storms - i.e. the bell curve will shift.

Climate change, at it's theoretical worst, can only make hurricanes reach Nova Scotia, but still only as a category 1. This storm's is not without precedent. It would have been roughly equivalent to past superstorms if it wasn't for a full moon and the storm making landfall at the peak of high tide. The hurricane without the presence of the other 2 storm systems would have been fairly routine.

Global warming is now called climate change due to weak, indefensible evidence. They might as well try to stop continental drift and reverse the Earth's crust back unto the Shape of Pangea.

There is VERY strong evidences that earth is warming. http://earthsky.org/earth/2012-arctic-sea-ice-extent-lowest-ever-recorded

With the amount of damages caused to New York from a category 1 storm, we can wonder if New York will survive to 21th century. :(

I think you miss the point - no one hurricane, even if there were a record hurricane, is vindication of climate change. Its impossible to say if any given hurricane would have happened, or have been as large/strong as it was, with or without climate change. But climate change will tend to make storms larger - what might have been a tropical storm in the past might become a cat 1, or a weak cat 3 might become a stronger cat 3. Bottom line is, scientists tell us that warmer air and warmer ocean temperatures tend to strengthen hurricanes, so warmer air and warmer ocean temperatures is not a good thing when it comes to hurricanes.

I think anyone who believes the climate and the environment isn't going to the proverbial dogs is living in a dream world and needs to seriously wake up. The world is ending, and we will all die horribly very soon. And if there is a heaven I know I won't be going there for sure because I am one of the most evil people in the world even though I've never killed anyone or started a war. It's not just the absence of actually doing bad things that makes you a bad person, just fantasizing about doing bad things like hurting someone has earned me a special place in hell. :(

It is a normal storm, but what has changed is more water vapor, which holds heat, gives body to the wind, and when it cools, a greater dynamic.

Last year record early snow, this year the same. Snow falling before the leaves, and more of a front between Arctic cold and tropical hot and wet.

The transitions become more sudden, that changes the patterns of where and when the rain or snow falls. Ten inches a year is desert, in a day it is a flood. Some areas lose, some gain.

The tropics move north, but the Arctic still gets cold, and every mile above the equator is smaller. When the water that fell from Texas to Georgia now falls from West Virginia to New York, it is the same amount over a much smaller area.

When the summer produces no rains, they all come in the fall, it is the same rain, in a shorter time.

Two year ago we had no summer rain, then 27 inches in December.

Buy a good set of rain gear and a hat.
