Whoever did this must be brought to justice.

Local news says that police possibly new ahead of time and did nothing, they just had bomb sniffing dogs and roof spotters there and let it happen.

You must mean "a Saudi national" ( a guy with a Saudi passport or whatever).

Not a "Saudi Nationalist".

Terrorists create terror. Whoever it was whether religious extremists or otherwise, they are terrorists and this was an act of terrorism.

Could be home grown terrorism in the name of some secular or religous american extremist cause unrelated to Jihadism. Or it could the obvious suspect- islamic import terrorism.

Domestic terrorism is actually more common in the usa, but targeting the boston marathon doesnt seem to make any symbolic sense within american politics.

Its not the big bad government being targeted by a timothy mcviegh. Its not a mink farm that peta extremists would go for. Nor is it race (as in color, not foot racing) related. Nor is it an abortion clinic.

Its just a large gathering of americans at a popular event. So that leads to me think that the perp is just broadly anti american-hense someone doing it in the name of Jihad. But who knows?

Its heinous regardless of motivation.

After taking a moment to weed out sensationalism...

1 - There is no one "in custody", there are no suspects.

2 - The event at the JFK Library would appear to be related to a coincidental electrical fire at the facility, not the bombs.

3 - There have been no confirmed reports of any other devices.

4 - There are two dead, not twelve. Official report so far is 23 injured, but more are being treated; it remains to be seen whether they were injured by the blast, taken in as a precaution, or injured in a panic following the blast.

5 - Evidence would suggest that the bombs were the result of home-grown terrorists. For instance, foreign nationals seeking to sow terror on US soil would have set their bombs to go off about three hours earlier, when the first runners were crossing the finish line and the crowds were thicker. Also, the significance of this being Patriot Day in Boston would be lost on foreigners - I was unaware of it myself, and I just live on the other side of the continent. (Patriot Day commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, kicking off the American Revolution's violent phase - of significance to certain domestic groups, but not to, say, al Qaeda.)

Let's leave the jumping to conclusions to NTs, right? Logical thought is supposed to be one of our advantages over them, after all.

According to this New York Post Article:

New York Post wrote:
Investigators have a suspect -- a Saudi Arabian national -- in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned. Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital. Fox News reported that the suspect suffered severe burns. It was not immediately clear why the man was hospitalized and whether he was injured in the attack or in his apprehension. The man was caught less than two hours after the 2:50 p.m. bombing on the finish line of the race, in the heart of Boston.

Of course, since the article cites Faux News as a source of information, the claim is automatically suspect.

There's a thread on this at the survivalist forum I'm a member of. People there are saying that the explosive was black powder (and some members have military munitions/explosives experience). If so, that and the weird timing-two hours after the winners crossed the finish line-may point to a "lone wolf" attack, a single guy building cheap bombs in his basement. If it was a big organization, the bombs would have gone off as the winners crossed the finish line, AND the bombs would have been plastic explosive or something. There have been various attacks/attempted attacks by lone wolf Muslim terrorists since 9-11. One guy filled an old SUV with explosives and parked it in Times Square. It didn't go off, but the guy was Muslim. And then there's the Doctors' Bombing in England years ago, where Muslim guest doctors tried to set off bombs. And then there's the Fort Hood shootings, where a Muslim army officer shot a dozen people. A pipe bomb is easy to make, and can be lethal in a crowd.

Well, that and it's the New York Post - slightly more authoritative than, say, the Daily Mail or the Weekly World News, but not that much more.

Meanwhile, my source was the press conference held by Boston's Chief of Police. I think I trust that more than the Post.

With the exception of a disturbed kid, this doesn't look like something that would be designed by or further the agenda of anyone domestic. Multiple attacks and not taking credit tends to be an Al-Qaeda trait.

And they are looking for another man of interest, one reason being "Breaking eye contact" after being denied access to a restricted zone 5 minutes prior to the explosions.

I went to Boston several years ago. I had a great time. I had some good memories. I went to so many historical sites and even went to the Cheers Beacon Hill. I wasn't a fan of the show but it was still nice to be there. This bombing just hit me in so many emotional spots. Call it empathy but it makes me wonder if something that bad were to happen closer to home. I went to Seaside Heights back in the summer and a few months later, Hurricane Sandy tore it apart. :(

I ask myself this question all the time.

As for the topic of the forums, I've heard a lot of conflicting information. I suppose that's the way it is with these big news stories. Either way, this is extremely tragic, and I honestly hope whoever did this will be brought to justice.

Indeed, we have freedom of press and minimally regulated internet in the U.S., and most people still reject their right to the truth to live in ignorance. In some countries, like China, the government regulates the internet to distort and hide information from they're citizens. In the U.S., the government doesn't have to do anything and most people will just believe whatever the media tells them anyway. People here don't really have a greater sense of the truth than people living in China. In China, the government is what keeps the truth from people, but in the U.S., people keep it from themselves. All the information is available on the internet to people in the U.S. to confirm that their paranoia towards people on the autism spectrum as a result of the Sandy Hook tragedy is illogical, but they still choose to ignore it.

It just dawned on me that my sister is currently in Boston, she has even uploaded pictures of the marathon on her facebook.
