Her tone is almost flippant when she says that, as if she is just recycling a cultural cliche rather than speaking of something that truly causes her consternation.

She acts like she just wants the Media attention. I've always heard the careful about quiet people thing my whole life, so it doesn't bother me too much even if it isn't the smartest thing to say.

You're incorrect.
I still agree with ruveyn's take on this and would add that the entire conversation is about one (apparently) quiet individual - she is being interviewed as someone who knew him/knew of him for 5 years; her comment about "the quiet ones" was a throw-away, commonplace remark made with reference to an individual she knew and said more in passing than with any serious intent at establishing a fact, and I think it is being somewhat over-sensitive to elevate this one line from one interview of one person into an offensive statement which everyone else will somehow zero in on and take as an absolute truth.
As if to imply: "She said he was quiet!! ! 8O Quickly - hunt down all the other quiet ones too before they kill us!! !"
Meh - I just don't see it.

I'm not so sure about the edit you mention, which just appears to be a visual - fading in/out his picture, rather like the earlier one the clip started with.
There was a clear break in the soundtrack just after 00:08 (apart from the click noise, the background noise changes and the microphone position has changed - the recording quality differs) - but the on later one at 00:40 there was nothing similar.

But what strikes me as counter-productive is that, for once, the media hasn't paraded him as some sort of damaged loner, making assorted dark implications about AS and other nonsense like was done with Lanza - so instead, one line from one street interview is being micro-analysed to make up for it...

I hate people like this, they make it harder for people with any type of difference that makes them quiet.

At 00:15 she says 'Like they always say, you have to be careful with the quiet ones' that is a general statement, which implies if someone is quiet they are dangerous. Perhaps its hard to see how that statement being thrown about might be damaging if you weren't one of the quiet ones that this was applied to when you never meant any harm.

I can see the OP's point that such things continue unnecessary stigma, its a good thing it isn't the mainstream media jumping on that, but its still not a good thing that the ignorance persists in society. Sure maybe she didn't mean anything malicious by it, it's just a social norm for people to say that ect. ect. Maybe the point is people should think a little more before they just regurgitate whatevers been fed to them.

The masses of sheep tend to be more dangerous than the abnormal individuals, because they'll just follow along. Sure maybe its a stretch from one video but if millions of people think that way it can start to be a problem.

Ignorance like that is problematic in society, regardless of the intentions behind it.......just following the crowd isn't a good reason, anymore than maliciously trying to increase stigma against certain people is.
