IMHO, those fundies are but one step removed from those psychos who would immolate their daughters for "shaming the family."

Scary, but true.

Why were there legislative objections in the first place? I thought that some parents objected to the daughters getting vaccinated for the stupid reason and idiotic reason that they thought that they thought it would encourage promiscuity.

This is so true. My own mother is like this. I asked if I could get the vaccine as a teen and she told me it wasn't necessary if you don't have multiple partners. Even if someone was a virgin on their wedding night, doesn't mean that their partner was, or that they won't cheat on them later. She had no reply, just repeated herself.

REALLY MOM, YOU'D RATHER I GET CANCER! She actually would, but that's another matter.

I realized that about my parents some time ago. I can only do my best with my daughter, though in later years she'll probably realize that on certain subjects, I'm a total boob.

I'm sure you'd make a spectacular Dad!
Trust me, parenting is all trial and error, learning from your mistakes, and hoping for the best. 8)
By the way, I'm as weird as hell, too.

I thank you for your confidence in my [potential] parental abilities. I hope and trust your errors were all before your child could remember them.

I wish, but none of them were exceptionally bad or memorable.

Actually, why aren't people educating fundies about it better instead of making fun of them? It's easier to label someone a ret*d and laugh at how stupid and backwards one thinks they are, then it is to take the time and get to know them and explain it in such a way that doesn't make fun of what they believe. I would say to them, that their daughter's future husband might not have been abstinent in his teens before they married, and just in case he picked something up and didn't know it, she might want to get vaccinated.

It comes across as reasonable, with out any of this making fun of what they believe which is what pisses off and alienates them from listening to someone.

I'm not singling you out Bill, it's just I want to see people acting civilized for once instead of just writing a group off because of a media stereotype that's popular right now.

They have been told... and told... and told.... till the rest of us have been blue in the face. Their rejection of the truth of the virus and it's vaccine isn't a matter of evangelicals not having the information, but rather willful rejection of those facts due to a prejudice that such a vaccine would only give the go ahead to teenage girls to have premarital sex. You can files this along with the religious right's rejection of evolution or the geological age of the earth - positions where they reject evidence out of willful ignorance.
