I wonder where this hatred stems from?

And I can never be bothered to open links either.

The perpetrator of the bullying is a former convict and still a neo-nazi. As for the reasons, I honestly have no clue, but it seems the three bullies are uneducated, and the longer article I read also mentions that one of them is a fan of Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, is into occultism and has a swastika tattoo. So God knows what they have got going on in their heads.

You never know, maybe the phrase 'God is dead' (or fortune cookie macros of the type posted on facebook) about sums up that young man's knowledge of Nietzsche. Both Nietzsche and Schopenhauer would be quite shocked to find out that in the new century they serve as an inspiration for Russian men to urinate over 16-year old virgin boys.

Really? I read that a boy got a rock smashed against his skull...And another boy committed suicide from the bullying.

The bullies hack victims' accounts to post pictures of graves to scare off people's friends is what I found out about it. The 19-year old guy who was humiliated is given good care by his college course mates, the article states. The article I read didn't make mention of any rock smashing (unless they've made more 'progress' since then).

First off, Gays were oppressed by the Orthodox Chuch in Tsarist times. The Communists actively recruited gay people into their ranks, then Stalin purged them out when he came into power. Officially, there were no gay people in the Soviet Union until Glasnost under Gorbachev indicated that there might possibly be gay people in Russia.

After Communism fell, Russia was essentially wide open for essentially anything and everything due to the fact that the country was literally broke due to the mismanagement of the communists.

Granted, Putin is restoring order the the country, and making it prosperous, but he's essentially relying on restoring the old powers of Russia in order to do this, namely the strict policing, legacy communist era laws and legal system, and allowing The Church free reign.

I can understand he really doesn't have much to work with, but at the same time I think that restoring The Church to a place of prominence in Russia is a really bad move on his part.

--A lot of the hatred of Gay people in Russia stems from the fact that the Orthodox Church has always had a very dim view of homosexuality, naturally this trickles down to the gopniks in the video harrassing the gay kid.
