This whole government shutdown thing could just be a scare tactic. I'm not afraid.

Indeed, and sadly that covers most of america these days. The worse thing about it is, until the administration is purged and refilled with people who have the general public's best interests at heart, it'll only go downhill.

I find the political loopholes that have enabled the Tea Party republican faction of the House to manipulate our system to this point insane. The politicians themselves are insanely stupid. I live in Washington DC and I will certainly be affected by this mess, and what's more, a number of my friends and acquaintances are being furloughed tomorrow because the republicans can't accept the reality that the ACA, while imperfect, is going to happen. The ironies of this are that the ACA will happen regardless of this shutdown, and as an added hit to the Tea Party constituency, gun permit processing will go to a standstill. With so many negatives in this terrible political system, I will take a silver lining wherever I can find one.

Well I still get to work until the remainder of last year's VHA discretionary cash is used up. If this shutdown lasts for 7 days, I will be partially responsible for an orderly shutdown of the regulatory enforcement section of the Safety Department (including putting my job responsibilities on hold).

It's looking like I am going to keep working until next Tuesday, at least. Hopefully this crap is cleared up by then.
