The only ray of hope is that as we become a browner country (as opposed to being so WASPish) values will shift from a me to a we paradigm.

My biggest issue with the growing income gap is that we are almost back to the point where there are serfs and masters, a class system that was truly horrific. Future generations will likely look at us with complete disgust.

present generations look at us with complete disgust, though said lookers are mostly outside of America. I have trouble understanding how aspies of all people can see this as a great thing for others to emulate.

"Aspies of all people?" It seems to me that many Aspies will look, first and foremost, to their own, individual circumstances. Many an Aspie (not all, to be sure) who is in circumstances in which the necessities and basic luxuries of life are available will say, "this is fine."

I'm more sanguine about it. The world is full of selfless people, and selfish people. Nothing that I can say or do is going to change that, so rather than viewing others with shame, I choose to reserve my feelings of shame for those occasions when my conduct falls below the standard that I would set for it.
