In this increasingly interconnected world, it's getting tougher to tell if there is an actual increase in violent acts like this, or just an increase of societies awareness of these events. Not long ago, there just wasn't as much media reporting on every little news item from places far away. Then I ask myself, could the increase in the reporting of these things be fueling the imaginations of psychopaths.

But then this interconnectedness, is just a superficial one. All these communications technologies are making people more disconnected from each other on a personal, human level. Creating more sociopathic behavior.

Taser is the best we've got, and the unintended consequences of it's invention and deployment are problematic in their own right. The real problem is the 'us vs them' mentality of the police, where they see themselves as more of an occupying force than as members of the community, and the shift in focus to "officer safety" at all costs, including shooting anything and anyone that might remotely pose a threat.

maybe they need to hire more intelligent cops instead of the <105 IQ candidates many departments currently accept for basic officers.

I have heard talk show interviews with people who have been turned down for police officer positions for being too smart (125 IQ). There are many departments who want stupid cops, they are better at blindly following orders.

The world really is going down a sad, scary path.
