He should get together with Marion Barry and hang out.

Anyway, this so-called "mayor" has a wide and varied history of being incredibly egotistical, belligerent, incredibly disrespectful towards others, misusing his power and privilege and acting like he is above the law. He also is racist, a homophobe and clearly has problems with alcohol.

I feel that if someone is in a position of power, they need to set an example for others. Rob Ford clearly has not done that, and I am highly surprised that something has not been done about him already.

Here's a rundown of the guy's history, which began before any allegations of the crack tape.

As far as this crazy series of events is concerned, this guy is corrupt and either needs to resign or be somehow booted out.

Yikes! His history of indiscretions goes back to when I was born!

This just keeps getting weirder and weirder. As a CFL fan (an American CFL fan, and possibly the only one on this site [on both being American and a CFL fan, in case you were wondering]), this really shocks me!

I don't know much about this story, but I really feel for drug addicts. I feel like it's like my OCD, only theirs can be very deadly.

I agree with you that nobody chooses to be a junkie. But they can choose to get clean. While I've never had those kinds of problems, I've known people who have, and Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve-step programs not only work wonders, but are free for the taking. For OCD's there is no such help.

I never said they can't get help. I just feel sympathy and empathy for them. I was never addicted to drugs, but I used to use pills sometimes and drink. The good thing about drug and alcohol addictions is you can avoid them. With OCD, depending on your compulsions, you might not be able to avoid going around the objects you use for compulsions. It really does suck. There is help for people with OCD, though. Anti-anxiety medications can also help take the edge off, which is nice.

DC reelected Marion Barry a couple years after the video of him smoking crack. He was mayor for like 8 more years and now serves on the City Council or something. That's kind of insane, but it is DC, so what can I say?

Don't be too quick to vilify the man. Most of the stuff on that list can be attributed to alcohol. I strongly suspect that he often has a "nip" of the "good stuff" before any public appearance. It's the only pattern that fits all his behavior. Even his weight. As for being a racist and homophobic (I will just us the catch-all phrase bigot) and well as corrupt. He is. But the question is is he a very vocal minority. Or is he the one dumb loud mouth in a normally silent majority? Everything i know about politics screams at me that it is the later. There are many politicians that share those beliefs but are too politically smart (IE: Sober) to voice them. The tiger out in the open is way less dangerous that the ones hidden in the jungle.

Still he has to go.

More like a outright massacre. He spent too much time last month committing political suicide. I don't think he will ever get re-elected again while this scandal is in the air. Maybe in a few year when this thing isn't so fresh in peoples mind. Next year is too soon.

Amendment to the above: It was the CFL commissioner (Mark Cohon) that told Rob not to attend the game.

And I've been fat. Am still fat enough to grab a stomach roll and the back/side flab that wasn't there a year ago and pinch it. I don't know where I stand on the empathy scale--I seem to have an excess of emotion, most of it anxiety and rage, but I often have difficulty moving beyond sympathy for almost anyone who has not been weirdly wired and suffered as intensely as I have.

Which explains the drinking, the benzos and the street drugs, including R. Ford's favorite combo.

He appears to be a really sick guy. But--because of his relative wealth, I'm sure--I have little empathy and even less sympathy for him.

He is doing everything to death. He's sufficiently grandiose as to feel, or so it seems, that he's entitled to get away with this.

IMO, he should be fired, and head to a long-term rehab, the latter as part of his severance package. I'm imagining that high-ranking government officials would get such a thing in my neighbor to the north of the USA.

I don't know if this is too harsh. but I'm with Librarian about the voter IQ thing.
