I worked at Loblaws and have had similar experiences to Tuttle. I think people like that pick up on the vulnerability of people with autism and they know they can bully them.
I've never been able to deal with it. I still remember things that happened years ago clearly. I just can't get my mind around why people would behave in such an offensive manner.

An American thing, why am I not surprised. It makes more sense when it's the delivery that counts. I remember things that happened years ago very clearlyl as well.

well I have not been to the usa though Bush 2 confirmed to me that "Australia reminded him of Texas" give me a simple meal in a Swiss mountain lodge over a slick city restaurant with "happy workers: that's overpriced with poorly made food. It's mostly about the product for me.

As mentioned, I worked at Mc Donalds. There are for cashiers clear rules about how a guest shall be greeted and everything, that you are shown on an video training type. The thing is, its simply in such an "hyperfriendly" intensity, that you become creepy for customers if you did it that way. So you get the see the training video, do it exactly that way, only to get told after a few customer, to do as being told in the training video, so guests dont get weirded by you. ^^

Its not, that they want you around here to be rude, but a simple "Hello, what would you like/what can I do for you?" - "Thanks, CU/bye!" is considered normal here while "I wish you a wonderful day and welcome you. In which way can I be of your kind assistance?" - "Thank you for your purchase as McDonalds. We enjoyed to serve you! Have a WOOOOOONDERFUL day and I hope to see you again!" with an additional artificial advertisement-model supergrin-"Yes, I have 32 teeth on each jaw!"-smile, is more of something that invokes in people the need to slowly walk backwards towards the restaurant door, while suspiciously watching you. XD

Sometimes people's rudeness provokes other people to be kind.
The positive part of this story is the outpouring of compassion and the awareness of the issue.

well it's catching on here I think Bush 2 may have been on the money when he said :" Australia reminded him of Texas" the supermarkets here (only the "flagship stores) now employ "welcomers" at the front of their stores when they "welcome" me with their dopey smiles I just want to punch them in the face especially so when theirs a line that's a mile long

well his right even the French aren't fond of the Parisians , and the drinking comment is pretty ignorant per capita in Germany beer consumption X2 higher than the Irish, in regions of Germany beer consumption is 250 litres a year ! (per capita)
