I do remember. I loved the scents of leather and glue and sunny dustiness at the shoe repair place. Plus it had a gum ball machine which took pennies.
The local video and dvd rental place here went out of business a couple months ago, after thriving for about 15 years.

Who else here remembers S&H Green Stamps? Mom saved up a few dozen books of them to buy a new dishwashing machine.

They kind live on today........... they just offer 'greenpoints' as rewards for online purchases today. (Although I don't think it's the same company as the old one, however.....)

I miss blockbusters, and movies in physical form (dvd, or tape).

So I join in the wake!

Damn!

Havent heard about "S&H Greenstamps" in a LONG time!

Do remember hearing that phrase in radio commercials. Dont know if mom and dad ever used them or not.

That was back when I was watching Kookla, Fran, and Ollie, and Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Well, sadly to say, you can thank inflation for that.

Hearing about the "death" of Blockbuster is kinda like hearing about the death of a B-List celebrity -- I know who they are, but I just can't remember when I've ever enjoyed anything they did.

I remember I used to love going to Blockbuster. I loved renting movies, and also they would sell popcorn and stuff there. The only problem is my brother and I only got to choose one movie when we went. Sometimes we couldn't agree.

Craigslist and yard sales.

I hadn't seen a vhs in ages! I saw one in an antique store some months ago, and the first thing that came into my mind was 'wow, this things really were huge! and heavy!'. My mom threw away all the movies I had. I was so devastated.

I think I still have a collection of VHS tapes (stuff I recorded off of TV years ago) in a box somewhere...and my DVD player is a dual player (a VHS slot too). I need to find those--wonder if they still work?
