It is actually in the User agreement when people sign up. Every single keystroke is fair game for Facebook to monitor, store, and share. They also have rights to every single thing you say and every picture you post. Facebook makes sure you give up your entire right ot privacuy while using their site, and any game or app that you agree to use via Facebook also has the right to your information.

Always read User Agreements (Terms and Conditions) for everythign! Some of them are downright disturbing. I know it takes time, but some of them legally remove many of your basic fundamental rights with your "consent."

Well...this is another reason not to use Facebook.

Why does this come as a surprise to anyone? I mean, seriously, we know that the government themselves monitor all of these networking sites (in addition to god only knows what all else), why is it such a surprise that the site owners themselves are using that info as well? I guarantee you that if we were to uncover all of the privacy violations that are currently going on, even in just the U.S. alone, there wouldn't be enough money in the world to compensate even a third of the affected parties.

Right now, there are only two ways to stop this madness:

1. Stop using any digital device or service.
-and/or-
2. Total and complete reform and enforcement of all privacy laws, as well as pursuing charges against all companies, organisations, individuals, etc. that have violated those laws.

Those are our options, and since neither is going to happen (for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that a vast majority of companies would go out of business paying in damages alone), the best we can hope for is that it doesn't get any worse. Though, I for one am not going to sit by and let it happen without saying a word like 90% of the population, not that it'll make a difference with the way this country handles crap like this.

Something that idiots who regularly view/download porn online don't seem to realize.

As a former computer system administrator, I know that everything is monitorable, most likely is, and govern myself accordingly. Same for about any form of telecommunication.

Should they care? That isn't illegal unless it's child porn, and most service providers have a privacy policy. Every time you talk on a cellphone, there is also the chance that you could be monitored.
