I think that right there is the problem....no someone is not asking for discrimination and contempt if they don't 'hide' their differences. Point is people need to learn about why discrimination and contempt against people for things that don't even hurt anyone is problematic and shouldn't be encouraged.

What's embarrassing is that this statement was made

Embarrassed by the truth are we?

I've witnessed times where an obese girl walks by wearing yoga pants and leaves people laughing and making nasty remarks in her wake. She humiliates herself day after day because nobody will tell her how she REALLY LOOKS wearing those pants.

Sounds to me like the people laughing and making nasty remarks are humiliating her....people need to get over other peoples bodies.

That's true. But it is also true that people are dickheads and not apt to change for the sake of goodness.

:(

My wife had had a friend in high school who had been extremely overweight, and who wore tight, tight yoga or biker pants everyday. My wife tells me other kids asked her to tell her friend not to dress like that - - and when she did, she says her friend just shrugged her off. This young lady seemed to think tight pants were "slimming."

It's not healthy to wear stuff that's too tight.

That depends on whether it's actually tight or just stretchy and form fitting.

Once when I was 16 and pregnant at a doctor's office they complained that my pants were "too tight" because I was wearing stretch pants. They may have looked tight but they were just stretchy leggings and very comfortable. They are also ideal to wear when pregnant or fat because they will stretch to fit you, unlike jeans where you need just the right size or they won't go on or fall off.

I've never worn or owned spanx but those seem like they would be uncomfortable.

I've also not worn yoga pants. I'm not sure if I'd like them because from pictures I've seen online most don't go up to your waist. I don't like pants that don't go up to your waist.

I gained weight and could use some new pants but the thrift store I go to closed and I'm too cheap to buy pants in a real store. I miss getting $4 or less jeans.

Those things do sound unhealthy....however it doesn't specify what sort of skinny jeans. I have skinny jeans that are stretchy and not too tight...but I can see how some pairs could cause a lot of discomfort I've tried on some pairs I can't even squeeze my legs into that are my size.

While I think that dress codes can be helpful they need to be realistic also.

That's a very stupid dress code. What if those are the only pants that some girls feel comfortable wearing? Why don't the school officials do something more productive like putting an end to bullying instead?

Because that might mess up the social hierarchy at the school.... 8O

Once it was too loose, now it's too tight.

Ha.

I'd like to see men embrace the yoga pant. If we're going to start showing off our genetalia, why stop with women? Men have so much more to display.

^ We should also let women go topless at will, if we're going down that route. I mean this one, I'm a pretty progressive guy.

coudnt agree more,feralucce! spot on.
am a fatty and hate clingy sht like those anyway but its a persons right to wear them and its a persons right to not give a sht what others think about them.

as long as they are not breaking laws with indecent wear then how can anyone be so fixated on how another person looks? its just clothing, theyre only used to keep us warm and comfy.
perhaps theres a pyschological projection issue going on,and people are feeling very uncomfortable with how they themselves woud look in those clothing.

perhaps those fat women mentioned on this thread had been pregnant and it was post pregnancy flab which is very common for women and leggings often is a comfortable form of clothing for women in that situation.
well either way its not fair at all to think negatively of these women for wearing leggings, think about it-if we want to be treated with dignity and respect for our disabilities then am sure we shoud be doing the same thing to others who are different from the one size fits all standard as well.

The problem with this statement is that it is not a case of you being progressive and actually supporting it because you are opposed to a double standard and women should not be subjected to a different dress code than men - instead, you made a thinly veiled sexist statement...

Thank you... I find myself infuriated by sexism and rape culture in this world.

I went to a HS that regulated skirt lengths and prohibited spaghetti straps, and I find this ridiculous.
