I just read that 80% of auto accidents are due to driver error. take out that factor and one can tone down a lot of the heavy "safety" equipment from cars. we are long past the time that automated driving systems could have been established. such would reduce fuel consumption by itself.

Thermodynamically the highest efficiency a Carnot cycle engine can achieve is about 70 percent with a high temperature source of about 1000 Kelvin (about 730 degrees celsius, which is pretty damn hot).

If this VW has an engine that runs at this temperature there might be some safety issues.

instead of venting the heat to the atmosphere, why can't internal combustion engines use this heat to power an auxiliary steam engine to assist in propulsion or other automotive functions?
