why are kids burning themselves aka "fire challenge?&qu
How so? I imagine many of these people will go on to have kids one day.....and isn't that the purpose of existence as far as Darwinism is concerned?
Darwinism is about the propagation of the fittest; that is true. "Intellectual" Darwinism is about the propagation of the smartest. Or, in this case, the failure to do so.

Kids here tend to get interested in fire around age seven and set people's fields on fire, happened to us.It was hell trying to put it out.The solutions for that were to give the kid a chore involving fire, which then takes all the fun out of it.Example, kid has to fill the burning barrel and burn the paper trash,or clear and burn brush, fill the firebox in the wood stove. They get tired of its allure after that.

When I was growing up, we had a neighbor kid who, besides being an all around trouble maker and thief, was also a firebug. When our barn (yes, I grew up with a barn, as it came with the property, but it hadn't been used to stable animals for years) in the backyard was set on fire, there was no doubt who had been responsible, but proving it was quite another matter.

I believe that minors who commit crimes aren't prosecuted as much as they should be. Sentencing a kid playing with fire to, say, one or two weeks in community service or detention would likely deter the kid from other, more dangerous crimes later in life. A small price to pay for an easy correction early on. Unfortunately, we have judges who either ignore the crimes and require merely a fine (which the parents pay, so the kid learns nothing from the crime) or sentences the kid to months or years for what amounts to petty vandalism by arson. The results of either reaction are whole generations of delinquent kids learning through example that their actions have no consequences.

Tossing in an aerosol can once in a while keeps it interesting.

Yes however in darwanism fit....is essentially whatever goes no to reproduce and continue spreading its genes, the unfit is whatever doesn't end up doing this. So where that comes in here is if the person is killed or injured in such a way they cannot pass on genes they are unfit....if they survive and spread their genes they are 'fit' regardless of if we humans think it is stupid or not. But I am getting to caught in the details of the meanings of darwanism......As for the thread I too think it is quite stupid to light oneself on fire like that, now there are ways to do it with safety precautions and what not which I don't see much issue with but pouring a bunch of flammable stuff on yourself, lighting it on fire and then trying to put it out the quickest really is stupid.

Re the dumb challenges, I remember 20 years ago dumb kid burning himself "branding" with a lighter for a dare. " Yeah some prick called me a coward so I did it. Everyone does it"

Meh while painful, not sure its entirely dumb.....it doesn't bring the risk of burning to death with it for one at worst maybe a little scar but whatever. But the whole point of dares is doing something you wouldn't do in normal circumstance, of course there is a limit to dares that can be done and those that go to far. But i don't see burning oneself with a lighter as even comparable to lighting yourself on fire like that.

You are absolutely right. We are descended from people who did things like this for literally thousands of years. Such dangerous and painful things used to be ritualized in the culture- they were an official Rite of Passage. Anyone who has cracked a sociology textbook has read about them in various tribes and cultures. Cultures had officially recognized painful and dangerous actions for teens (generally boys) to do at a certain age before they could be recognized as men.
This has been such an entrenched part of the history of the human race that it may actually be wired into teenage boys. In the absence of officially sanctioned Rites of Passage, they make up their own.
Much as it might look like contenders for Darwin Awards, Sweetleaf is right. The fittest are those who reproduce. And we are descended from countless millenia of people doing this.

*shrug* If they prove that they're tough enough later in life it might help them get mates, so yeah. Darwinism doesn't have an intellectual goal.

Holy crap, I didn't even think of all that...but that is true as well, that sort of thing actually seems like it was common in some more ancient cultures.

Tattoos are also permanent...and piercings if you have something in it long enough to prevent it from closing up, I still have 6 ear piercings 3 on each ear that never have ear rings since they all irritate the skin thus far. Though granted not so sure a dare is a good reason to do something that leaves lasting evidence....like that so certianly permanant and pointless...would have been cooler to make a peice of metal into a cool shape or design or something, if you're going to do something like that may as well make it cool.
