How do you mean blaming the victim is appropriate in cases of suicide? If someone is a victim of harrassment/abuse and other factors that contribute to suicidal feelings how can the possibly be blamed for that. A person can only take so much and how much that is varies among individuals....sure on a technical level the only person that can be blamed for actively ending their life is them as they are the one who chooses and carries out whatever method. But people don't just wake up one day and decide 'hey I'm going to just up and kill myself' there are factors that make people feel that way and much of the time so those factors also share blame especially if those factors are other living beings that knowingly contributed to someones mental/emotional distress and or any kind of physical harrassment/abuse.
And I think money is the last thing on the mind of a grieving mother.

Hi everyone,
I wrote a blog about Graham Gentles, the young man who worked at Target and committed suicide after being forced to participate in a "walk of shame."
I think workplace bullying and mental health are issues that need to be discussed.
I hope you like my writing and please feel free to share your thoughts.

Such a great post. Thanks.
I myself have been "shamed" for various reasons I'd rather not disclose. I've been "shamed" even as far as my own family, in order to "teach me a lesson". I've even been treated as a delinquent and because of that, received passive threats for issues that weren't necessarily within my control, and a poor understanding of my own mental issues. As the years have passed though, I've begun to realize that corporal punishment tactics like these do much more harm and are also ineffective in what they're supposed to teach as well. If you want to teach someone to respect you, aren't you supposed to treat them with a degree of respect, as well? What kind of charade was this by the Target store? I hope that mother wins her case; I'd love to see that place shut down.
Target is a very large corporation. I agree the actions are despicable, but it is very difficult to sue large corporations for any reason, but especially employee misconduct.

I'm sure that Target will first offer to settle out of court. If the family does not accept the settlement, then I'm equally sure that Target's lawyers will find ways to drag the process out long enough for the family to run out of money and either give up or accept a much lower settlement than the one they were first offered.
Even if the case goes to trial, it is entirely up to the family to prove that Target was truly responsible for their son's suicide - hard to prove, since the son was his own murderer.

Damn, Fnord, you're a hard, calculated bastard, lol.
I have been fired before, without reason, without cause, just because I didn't fit in. I feel for the kid, I really do. These minimum wage jobs are f*****g hell.
I honour that kid for having the courage to leave this awful planet, and having the balls to go through with the suicide.
A suicide is never anyone's choice. People commit suicide because they were not the genetic lottery, that allowed them the ability to succeed in our society, or the coping skills to deal with their problems if they didn't.
It's all luck. You're either born strong, with a healthy genetic make-up, or you are doomed to a life of mental, physical, and spiritual suffering if you aren't.

I had clicked on this thread in my email just a few minutes ago, only to find directed at me a message that I had been permanently banned for spam. What the f*ck?!?!?! I'm only delivering this message because I had logged back in. Anyone have even the slightest notion what's going on?

That's wierd. I would have thought that if you were banned, you wouldn't even be able to log back in.

As I assume that I shouldn't have been able to just log back in, it must have just been a mistake. But a mistake that really got me feeling anxious there.

Okay, knowing that it's just a glitch makes me feel better.

Suicide rates are going up in general. Older people are killing themselves more... middle aged people are killing themselves more... Young adults are killing themselves more... Even children are killing themselves more...
It happens very frequently. Very little of it ever makes it to even the local news, so you don't tend to hear much about it. There was a girl around here from a local highschool that laid her head down on the railroad tracks. It was reported that the trains were delayed, I didn't find out later why.
And many of these suicides are getting more gruesome. More and more people are deciding to set themselves on fire... in public.

I don't know, but that happened to me about a week ago. It scared me quite a bit. It took a while to calm down. Hopefully, the glitch doesn't result in anyone actually being banned...
