Kasparov clearly has an axe to grind. He doesn't like the current Russian leader so he's trying to urge the west to push regime change. And if the west engages in nuclear confrontation, that makes a nuclear response from Russia entirely justifiable.

I don't agree with all of Putin's policies but I support him because he is an authoritarian who has rearmed his country and made Russia a counterweight against western hegemony.

But I am glad you post such an honest perspective. It is a valuable counter to the nonsense from Jacoby who reminds me of people who suported the Argentine Junta in the Falklands war just because the other side was Maggie.

Do we have to pretend the whole world is goodies and baddies and, like the bolshie ninnies of the cold war, claim that everything from the Americans is bad, bad, bad and therefore everyone opposed to them is good, good, good.

The Americans are bad, the Brits are bad, the Russians are bad, the Chinese are bad. Don't kid yourself.

I was being a bit facetious. Though being a scion of western culture, I must concede I am more or less in favor of it.
