LOL

But I also noted an absence of the NAACP in other issues back then, notably during the'68 Democratic Convention in Chicago, although to be fair this followed closely on the heels of the riots in the same city earlier in the year (when my best friend was "mowed down" by Chicago cops).

Oh, MY----you mean your friend was KILLED by cops?

But more recently I noticed their absence during the Occupy (Wall Street) demonstrations as well. It appears the black politicians in power are no different since Dr. King died, especially the great pretender Jesse Jackson. They're just in it for the money and glory.

Yeah, I think some politicians----black OR white----only pick issues that'll cause a sensation----bring attention to whatever's on THEIR agenda!!

Don't get me started on Jesse Jackson----"great pretender", is RIGHT----him, and that damn Al Sharpton!!

Or maybe I'm just bitter?

Maybe..... But, this is just what I've been saying on other threads, regarding racism..... WHITES are now feeling oppressed, IMO----and, the "bitterness pendulum" is swinging the OTHER way, now----AND, the "fighting-back pendulum" is swinging the other way, as well, IMO; and, that worries me!

No, these guys were definitely buddhist. The typical Hare Krishnas have deeper tablas that bother me less--it's the sharp, high sounds that press the reset button in my head.

Oh, okay..... Yeah, I hear ya, about the deeper-sounding drums.....

Yeah, killed by cops.

After Orange Crush/Hires Root Beer and I parted ways in early '63 I got a labor job helping to move machinery (which later turned into a good union job, and Bob became the first black member of Local 136) and Bob (Robert Dorsey) and Eddie (Edward Hosley) and I traveled around Chicagoland to move machinery (between 2000# and 12,000# and between '63 and '68) through, mostly, brute strength. I was dumb and uncoordinated (but big) but the guys had pity and patience and eventually I learned to become a productive team member and friend. We were pretty "tight" although while I could visit them on the west side, they were especially fearful of coming up to the north side (and probably rightfully so).

During the Chicago riots in early '68 Bob and his wife were heading home one day after the riots were blazing after King was assassinated.and they went through an alley to stay away from attention, when a bunch of cops, firing (shotguns and machine guns) indiscriminately into and through buildings, killed my friend Bob. Bob who had the sweetest disposition. Bob who sweet talked my wife into making us more chocolate chip cookies. Bob who I sold my '57 Chevy to. Bob who labored alongside me in 140 degree boiler rooms and -20 degree alleys.

I'm still bitter. Mr. K is right when he says you shouldn't dwell on such things, but you shouldn't forget either.

Politicians will twist anything to gain their desires. There should be a blacker definition for them.

The pendulum has swung away from "whites", as it should have for humanitarian reasons, but politicians of all stripes are there pushing it faster than it should go and innocent people are damaged in the process. Unfortunately our society (all societies in all times) are pushed forward not by just social pressures, but also by those seeking personal social or material profit. My hope is by the year 2303 (or sooner if possible) people will become more rational and human. It's only the conflict between us, promoted by greed and misunderstanding, that prevents this.

Rant: OFF.

That's a very upsetting story, ZenDen.

I am sorry that your friend was taken from you and that you are in pain.

Reading that brought back memories of my parents talking about those days in '68 with a friend of theirs whose skull was fractured by Chicago police despite his press credentials and completely innocent behavior. They just wanted to crack some heads and he happened to get in the way.

During that time my wife, our baby and myself were "adopted" by a friendly bunch of bohemian/artistic types, too old for student organizations and their war protests, but someone called to say "They're beating up the kids in the park" and we went off to see (as did 90% of the people there). I only got tear gassed and herded around but plenty young boys and girls had their faces beaten in just because they were there and mayor pig Daley was pissed he was excluded from the convention because of his earlier brutality and killing that year.

Thanks for commiserating, it only hurts when I think about it. But it's nice to remember Bob and Eddie (my fellow "n"s .....their loving name for me....word ) anyway.

If we could only turn back the clock.
