It would help if they would at least give a time period for when the affected cans were produced. Like some people buy a case or more at a time so maybe older food might be okay.

Headline News just repeated Iams and Eukanuba again and said 46 brands are affected.

I like how Iams said "voluntary" recall. Its voluntary because its the weekend. Monday it will most likely start becoming mandatory.

Sarah Tuite, a company spokeswoman, has said the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, which has since been dropped for another source. Wheat gluten is a source of protein.

Food and Drug Administration spokeswoman Julie Zawisza said it is still too early to determine what could have affected the food. Zawisza added that even if wheat gluten is the source "it doesn't necessarily mean the wheat gluten per se. It could be another substance associated with the wheat gluten."

The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches from Dec. 3 to March 6.

The latest- 46 brands are recalled... a new one to add to list is the NutroMax cat premium canned & pouch foods according to tv news.

They are saying ALL Purina is safe at this time except for Mighty Dog pouches, but Mighty Dog in cans is ok.

Purina makes Fancy Feast and Friskies canned catfood. Meow Mix wetfood in the little yellow cups is also suppose to be safe as its made in Thailand. No wonder my cat likes it... it's imported! And no wonder it costs so much.

If you have any of the Mighty Dog in pouches, Purina will refund your money if you have any of the affected lot numbers and call their 800#. The affected Lot numbers are on the purina.com website.

Meow Mix in little yellow tubs is safe because it is made in Thailand. . .

That's what I use because the pouches are so hard to clean out, you lose a third of the food in the pouch. I feed my cat food from Thailand in the little yellow tubs. I just had to think about that for a minute. I feed my cat food from Thailand and it is safe, but the food that comes from the heartland of The States is tainted and can kill your pet.

Ok, it's official. The world has finally switched magnetic poles and I am in Oz now.

Many IAMS and Eukanuba brands are on the recall list. We mostly feed our cats Friskies and 9 Lives.

Well its not the fact that its from Thailand that Meow Mix wet food is safe. It has nothing to do with Thailand per se. It has everything to do with whether or not the food was made in the Kansas Menu Foods plant where something has went wrong apparently a problem with the wheat gluten but they're not sure yet. A lot of Purina foods are made in Arizona so that's why only Purina Mighty Dog has been recalled because its made in Kansas.

ABC News is reporting a 3 yr old cat got kidney failure after eating Iams. The owner checked the trash and the cans had the affected Lot #s on them. Other cats have been getting sick from the Nutro Max canned. They are saying 10 animals have died so far. If your cat is showing symptoms of kidney failure or vomiting and has eaten the affected products made apparently since January you need to take kitty to vet and tell them they have eaten the food and are acting odd.

I went to store today and only canned food left on the shelf for cats was Friskies, Fancy Feast, Meow Mix, Sheba and 9Lives. Only dog food was Pedigree and Mighty Dog canned. Mostly the shelves were just empty. This is a dog town. People here will be panicking in a few more days with little food to choose from.

I'm worried because my aunt's dog has been feeling bad lately and she eats Mighty Dog. Not sure if it was the affected pouch kind or not, my cousin is going to call her mom asap and tell her.

I recently heard about this and was relieve of the fact, that the cat food which my cat "Archie" eats was not any of the ones listed as causing kidney damage or death.. I sincerely hope all whom have pets keep a keen eye out for this.

Does anyone know what all brands of the catfood are recalled? I found a list at menufoods.com but then on CNN this morning they mentioned brands such as Iams & Eukanuba that aren't even on the menufoods list. So how are we suppose to know what is safe to feed our cats since the FDA website says they haven't completed their list yet?! !

My kitty eats the Fancy Feast, Meow Mix and Friskies Prime Filets canned. So if anyone hears anything on those brands please post.

over 100 brands recalled.
if the food is canned or not served dry, i would look into it, otherwise your fine.
we have a dog, thank god she has a skin allergy and starts to smell real bad if we give har any of the brands recalled (not because they were recalled it just so happens the only one she can eat is one of the few not recalled

EDIT: they aren't sure what's causing this, so this threats gonna be around for a while

This brand was not affected: www.9lives.com. They have a list on their site of safe pet foods to use.

Apparently my dog and cat who died young were fed some of the recalled food (also another one of our dogs, although she died at the ripe old age of 18). We are getting our other dog tested.

Are you serious? Like how recently did they die? I think the recalled food goes back to December 2006. The news last night said over 500 pets have died because of this. Its also interesting to see how some stores, at least in my town, are refusing to take the recalled foods off the shelf.
