Yep, another not surprised.

Social and emotional naivety are prime targets for abuse.

It doesn't surprise me. I've been manipulated and controlled by someone who I thought was my friend and nobody would listen when I finally realize what she was doing. She was my "friend" for 10 years, and got worse as time went on. Needless to say I am more paranoid of people's motives when they are friendly to me because I am scared of it happening again. She seems so nice, you wouldn't believe the s**t she did to me. More awareness about this happening in general is needed but not to the point where every single friendship is questioned.

Try not to be bigoted.

Whilst "rednecks" may have abused you, they weren't the ones that abused me. Abusers come in all forms, and the biggest thing they have in common is that they look "normal".

The ones like this have a mindset that tells them it's okay to take advantage of certain groups. Take for instance, people who prey on the elderly. They rationalize the elderly all have a lot of money so they think it's okay to go ahead and take an inflated portion of it just because of their age and know they might be in need of company. So they put on a pleasant act only to gain access to someone's checkbook.

So, if they look at you and determine you would be easy to take advantage of and "don't need all that money anyway," they will go ahead and do it. This can even apply to not paying you for work you have done for them which happened to me when I worked for a neighbor that had a home business. They wanted to spend the money going out to eat every Friday and if that meant not paying me for the week's work, then so be it. It was just me and what would I need money for? That's the mindset these people operate from.

Before I met my wife, I had been involved with a young woman who blatantly took advantage of me and my mom for what little money we had. And I have to blame myself, because I was convinced known one else would ever love me - like she really did. :x

This has always been one of my fears which justifies me not having any friends and not being too nice and not helping people much. I have been taken advantage of by friends growing up and been made fun of and my own friends not protecting me and getting into trouble from peers and I was also in a abusive relationship but most women don't know they are in one because there is no hitting happening and they aren't being beaten by them. Luckily I got out because I don't stay and expect the guy to change and wait for it to happen. Some women make that mistake and then they are miserable or can't leave. The longer you stay, the harder it is to leave. I have also had my wallet stolen too so no more trusting very friendly people and I will use this incident to judge very friendly people and to stay away from them and not go with them. There is no room for giving the benefit of the doubt, safety comes first.

I'm sorry,

However, I'm surrounded by them! the things they say & do and yes 90% have some kinda holier then tho attitude It's bad enough I have autism then to live in a geographical area that really isn't progressive because the thought that progressives equates to "Communism" and/or "socialism" or it goes against "god's" way which hinders their way of thinking rationally.

If I could move I would move to a more progressive state.....or back to Jersey I'd be better off at least back north it's black & white they either like you or don't and they are not shy about expressing their feelings. Not to mention the education standard is higher and there's more access to services that I could benefit from.

Just note I don't go out of my way to automatically judge people I try to give people a chance.

The metro Atlanta area, while Atlanta is a somewhat more progressive the more progressive areas are in the affluent areas (Alpharetta, Johns Creak) and some of the better Autism specialists/education specialists are located in those areas as well...and they don't accept just any insurance! paying out of pocket can get cost prohibitive fast my screening was $1,075.00 ($375.00 for the screening and $700 for the full report). I've seen what the public mental health "specialists" have to offer in my community it was like seeing "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" in person.
