People like it for the low taxes and cheap living.
It's a good escape for those who hate paying higher taxes in the other SE Michigan counties.

According to the report, when he was first jailed he was evaluated. It was recommended that he be kept on the medical wing in a detox cell.
It is incorrect to say that the staff did not understand his medical status.

This is really bad. Firstly, I don't understand how he lost 50lbs.----I'm guessing he wasn't eating anything, at ALL (that, right there, should've been the FIRST clue, that he needed help).

Secondly, like others have said, the jail employees were aware of his meds, etc., so he should've been allowed those meds----it's not invisible when someone is suffering from the DTs.

Thirdly, jails / prisons all over the country are terribly lacking in staffing, sanitary conditions, etc.----YES, if someone commits a crime, they should pay the price; BUT, they should be given humane treatment! This is just APPALLING!!

I agree with the article that said, something like, "Basically, he received the death penalty, for a traffic ticket".

Nothing seems to qualify as "cruel and unusual punishment". Under the heading "cruel and unusual punishments" there is just blank space.

The 'cruel and unusual punishment' clause in the Constitution is just like any other part. The powers-that-be can and will interpret them any way they see fit. Look for this to happen more and more.

it FELT like I lived there, after driving during the afternoon through the state, I spent the night at a rest stop, and when I asked for directions I got only the cold shoulder. I felt a distinct chill there.

I drove through Texas once, I know all about it. :lol: Actually, I have been to Ohio more than once, and I didn't think it was any better nor was it any worse than the states around it.

I was stationed in texas and it was not an especially friendly place, similar in mercenariness to florida. wish I coulda visited Austin, I hear that is a friendlier place. all in all, most of western Washington is mellow.

Over the last year or so within the North American continent I've seen various news stories where persons have committed a low level offense and yet wind up being treated like some high profile murder and treated in many ways very inhumanely.. I've had a traffic citation once in my life but, I neither wound up in jail nor did I wind up deceased either.. 8O

The "unusual" part in "cruel and unusual" is easy to fix: just apply the punisment over and over again and it won't be unusual anymore. As a bonus, people will get used to it and it won't look so cruel, either.
