sweden prepares itself for WWIII, hostilities with russia

You can make too much of this, and you could make too little out of it.

Thats a general's job: to prepare the defense of his country against any possibly conceivable attack. Back in the Seventies the Pentagon already had computer simulations of "hundreds of possible wars" the US could get involved in. Most of these wars never ended up happening. But they have to prepare for any even semi likely scenario.

There was a Washington post article about ten years ago about how both the USA, and Canada, have long had blue prints for exactly how to invade the other . The first page of the article showed a map of north america with arrows pointed north showing the exact routes that our forces would use to invade Canada. And then the second page of the article showed the same North America with arrows pointed south showing the most likely routes Canadian forces would use in a bid to conquer the USA.

Doesnt mean a "second War of 1812" is about to break out between Canada and the U.S..

But on the other hand :though during most of the decades of the Cold War the chances of an actual hot war breaking out between the super powers on any day seemed remote, things seem more unstable now (a generation after the end of the cold war) then during most of the era of the Cold War. The Ukraine especially is a scary possible flash point between east and west.

Officially neutral Sweden is at the top of Europe sandwiched between NATO, and Putin, geographically. So Sweden would likely be in the middle of the storm if it were to break out.

^^^is it possible that Sweden in this sense, serves as something akin to the canary in the coal mine?

They do have a unique pov. Both Putin and the West accuse the other of arrogance, and of expansionism.And both sides have some truth in their accusations.

Sweden in more like the West in its values, but is not tied to either side ( its in the EU, but not in NATO). But I am sure Sweden has good intelligence on both sides, and is forced to keep its finger on the pulse of both russia and nato.

Sweden is also a big leading arms exporter. So they also have a huge commercial (as well as security) interest in keeping up on all of the world's wars, and possible wars. So yeah- if a Swedish official talks about trends in wars - I would listen!

the ruskies have been harassing Sweden for decades now. I don't know why.

Im just trying to imagine a bunker furnished entirely with IKEA. I think I'd rather take my chances with the bomb.

I like ikea's anorexic furniture in the abstract, as long as I don't have to sit on it.

The seats are better in Swedish cars, parliament not so much.

I also think WWIII is a huge possibility. I'm ready for anything these days. It would be nice if it didn't come to this, but people must do what they have to do.
