It IS sad - no one seems to care..

Though there are many countries that pay more attention to world news and events. Perhaps more often than not still nothing is done, but I think the US is one of the most uninformed countries as far as what is really happening in the world.

Sadly, I no longer expect that of people. Americans? Every country is like that. Except for a few powerless activist groups, nobody gave a damn about the Congo Civil War that killed millions of Africans just a few years ago. Or the Rwanda genocide. Or the Darfur genocide. Or the destruction of Zimbabwe.

Difference is they were not caused directly by America...Iraq was.

The whole war was sold to Americans because of WMDs and the potential of Iraq to used them on the US. Which turns out to be totality false. So in that sense it really is
Bush that caused it and America that has to deal with his mess.

The way I would have fought the "war on terror" is the same way we bought friends in the Middle East like Israel, Egypt , Jordan is by giving them foreign aid. Namely in
poor counties in Africa. We could have got alot of Islamic people on our side in this world. So extremist in the Middle East could not claim they were the voice of the entire
Islamic world.

If Americans where as apathetic as you claim Manaltwist, they wouldn't be the biggest contributors
to other countries whenever they have a famine, disaster, tsunami, war, disease, or
whatever. You just like to blame Americans for everything. Americans give more to
charity to help poor countries than any other country does, so give us credit for something.

I was reading an article, well an except from an article, in The New York Times about how President Bush has proposed a changed in how we should donate food to the poor in Africa. One of the main compaints in the past is that our gov't subsidies hurt poor farmers overseas (I agree). President Bush has largely been better in this area then previous Presidents of both parties (as in cutting farm subsidies). He has moved that instead of simply sending U.S. crops to Africa we should buy 1/4 of the U.S. aid that we send. Thus we can help give a rise to African agriculture. To former President Clinton's credit, he said the idea had not occurred to him while he was in office, but he liked it.
